    best penetrating oils

Recently I had two tractors with the pistons froze up.One was a 48 WD and the other a 48 JD A.Neither tractor could be rotated by pulling.I tried the acetone and at oil and had no luck in the first week.Pumped the mixture out of the cylinders and poured classic coke in them.Waited another week...

    Hunting from Tree Stands

When I shoot from a tree stand I know that my round is going into the ground. The population in this area is so dense that I don't want any bullets flying around that I can't control.I am sure that the area you hunt in will dictate the method you use, but saftey should be your main concern.

    Southern Deer-The "Myth"

Hre in Illinois some of the farmers paint COW on the side in white paint so you don't get mixewd up. :haha:

What BP substitutes DO work in flintlocks

My rock gun shoots everytime when I use 10 grains of BP under the load of pyrodex. Many of the shooters say that pyrodex is much more crossive than BP so you might want to keep that in mind.

    50g FFFg for Whitetail?

I don't know about fifty grains of BP but I do know that sixty has killed numerous white tails for me.Unless you are going to shoot at extreme ranges, I think fifty will work just fine. When you consider that the old 30 30 black powder round has probably accounted for more deer than anything...

TC 50 cal Maxi Hunter bullets

They are a good slug and I have killed many whitetails with them in 50 cal.I would urge you to try the roundball.I personally believe that I get quicker kills with it.I have shot deer with them and watched them fall while turning to flee.I have also watched them drop in there tracks so fast that...

Still get up at Dawn thirty to hunt?

The older I get the later I seem to hunt. With that said, I have probably killed more whitetails after eight thirty than eairler. Most of my deer hunts are usually the most sucessfull around nine thirty. The sun is also much warmer by then and it is much eaiser to see.

My day with the T/C Renegade .54

My 54s like 2F much better than 3f.They are more consistant in patterns with the 2F.Try reducing you charge to 60 grains of 3F and see if that helps.

    Powders

You are correct about using 2F to start with. When I use 3F in my GPR flinter it throws the balls all over.Only trail and error with give you the best load for powder patch and ball but the shooters here will give you a good place to start. When you get it dialed in you will be surprised at the...

    Scopes on a percussion....

Papa is right about the mount that he is talking about.I don't remember the name of it but you can probably google it.I have one mounted on a Deer Creek fifty that I got when my eyes started failing and you cn dot an eye with it.Of course you won't be correct for the period but you also wont...

    Baiting yes or no

I dont believe in baiting, electronic calls, trail cameras or four wheelers. If you need all of these props to get your game youre not much of a hunter.

    What got you into muzzlleloading?

I think it was the fact that you could make a rifle go off with a piece of flint.I still have a lock that I made out of scrap steel thats about the right size for a cannon, but it worked. My first rifle came from Dixie gun works as a kit in flint. The squirrel population suffered alot of cruel and...

Should A Sealant Be Used On Breech Plug Threads?

If you are going to use anything go to the hardware store and get some teflon tape used for gaspipe joints. It will be yellow instead of white in color. You could also use chalk in the threads.

    Punt gun on "American Guns"

I was born and raised in the Ill river valley and I have seen several punt guns that the market hunters used.I have never seen a piece of junk like the one on that show. Most of the guns that I have seen looked like modern guns in an enlarged scope. The last one that I saw sell at a auction was a...

    Lead

Many times you can obtain very soft lead from roofer. The old timers used lead flashing in the valleys. They also find lead sheets in bathroom floors when remodeling.Any lead used for plumbing is also very good lead.

    idea for a product

I suppose that if a person had a large inventory of tools, the talent to convert raw material into a finished product, inventory of material, money for overhead and worked for nothing you could accomplish your goal. But the end result would be the same thing that happened to the Kaiser Company after...

    Osage ramrod. Remotely possible?

If you can find a osage orange tree that has grown down in a bottom they are usually pretty stright for a long distance.I cut one a few years ago while building fence that had four eight foot corner post in the trunk, and five line post in the limbs. So little fence is built anymore I am sure...

    Another lucky deer.

When you snap the caps after cleaning hold the muzzle close to something like a leaf or small piece of paper. You should see that item move.If you don't you have a plug of some type. Can you remove the barrel by just removing the keys?If so your problem could be in the breachplug. The hole in that...

Any insight on a flinter for deer hunting?

You can harvest a deer with alot of different types of rifles, but the flintlock will give you the most satisfaction. If you really need the meat and still manage that with your flint gun it will mean even more.Practice with it until you know what its quirks are and what your short commings are...

    Open sights and old eyes

One of the shooters on another site that I visit was asking for different ideas that members were using for this problem. One of the idea was to solder a small ball bearing to the front sight of about 3/16 of a inch in size.I looked through my junk box but all of my bearing were about double that...
