    Squire Robin, any news?

That IS kind of surprising. Back in my RC airplane days, the fuel we used had kerosene in the mix, and we used silicone hose to pump from the fuel can to the tank on the plane AND from the tank to the engine. But, there were also lubricating oils and nitromethane...not just 100% kerosene. So...

    Squire Robin, any news?

"What's plan "B"???" Have a really good Plan A, and there's no need for a Plan B. The EDM machine looks like a really good bet, all things considered. Even if it doesn't work on the cannon, as long as the machine is functional, it's a nice tool to have sitting on the workbench. My Plan B...

    Squire Robin, any news?

Nice job on the machine. Very well built. Most of my electronics projects end up being housed in an old shoebox, a Tupperware container, or "that "FedEx" box I got last week". :haha: You'll probably end up spending more on the machine than on the cannon themselves. :winking: I'm...

    Squire Robin, any news?

Squire Robin, sir. I was just wondering how your spiked cannon project was going. Last we heard from you on the subject, (unless I missed a post) you were waiting on parts for an EDM machine. How is that project coming along? Or did you decide to abandon that idea? Any work on the carriages...

    I've been spiked

Squire Robin, You made smoke with your cannon by front fuzing it? (I stumbled across your "Spiked" post on another website.) Nice photos. Truly a beautiful site! Those are going to be some handsome guns. Heck, even without shooting, they would look great just sitting on the patio. Well done...

    Sad Story

Define "sad". In my opinion, the only sad thing about it is, he paid for a hunting permit, and used it up early in the day. Didn't even get to "enjoy" the season. For years, we would go up to Canada or northern Minnesota to fish. We used to come back with coolers full of fish. Over the course...

Squire Robin, Any update on your cannon situation? Brad

    I've been spiked

Going under the theory of a molten metal plug, a powder charge under it wouldn't be an issue. The molten metal would make short work of the powder charge, or vise versa. Not to mention, it would make short work of the person pouring the metal down the tube. :winking: Brad

    I've been spiked

"Assuming" it IS a plug of some sort, how about fastening a drill bit to the end of your modified bore brush that you used to clean the rust out? Any shavings that come out would give you some idea of what you are dealing with. Perhaps, enough shavings to try to melt, to see if heating the...

    I've been spiked

"Have you tried drilling/poking the bottom of the hole to see if it is a soft metal? Looks like someone poured something molten down there and it ran up the touchhole a ways. Woods metal? Babbitt? Maybe you can just melt it out." I was wondering the same thing. The "something else" in the...

    I've been spiked

Perhaps the cannon was never drilled through, and was meant only as a display piece? But then, why the cannon ball down the bore in the first place? Maybe the spike is just flush with the bore, which would be quite a coincidence, but I suppose it could happen. A bit of rust on the inside, and...

    Frizzen too soft?

roundball, Thanks for the photo. That gives a pretty good frame of reference. The gouges in mine are a bit deeper than the ones shown in the center of your frizzen. They seem a bit too deep for only a few dozen shots, but I can probably live with it. My only real concern is that the gouges...

Best , worst or luckiest shot you had ever done

Not black powder, but still best/luckiest shots... At the age of 13 or 14, it seemed my .22 rifle was an extra appendage of my body. I carried that thing all the time. We had a major pigeon problem around the barn, so dad gave me the job of thinning them out a bit. One afternoon, our neighbor...

    Frizzen too soft?

Hi all...long time lurker, first time poster... I've been away from muzzleloading for about 20 years, and just got back into it with my first flintlock...a Pedersoli Queen Ann pistol kit. I really enjoyed building the kit, and it's an attractive piece. But, now that it's built, I have just...

    YEEEEEEEEE-HAR

Um, I hate to post my first remark as a doubtful one, but DID it move? :: I took the image into Photoshop and matched up the barrel features (ridges, bumps and shallows) and the ball is exactly the same size in both. If you look at the long ridges at the 10:00 o'clock and 2:00 o'clock...
