    Barrel fit on Chambers Kit?

My Early Virginia rifle came with a Rice barrel and had to be fitted. I would rather have to do the final fitting than have a gap somewhere. A couple hours and it was in.

    Swabbing in between shots??

I keep a worm that is wrapped with tow in the patchbox of my rifles. If I need to wipe, which is rare, I use this to give a quick wipe down the bore.

Pedersoli vs. Traditions for First Flinter

Congrats on your purchase. I had a Pedersoli as my first flinter, it was agreat way to get started. My favorite load was 70 grains of Goex 3f with an .015 patch. My lube is a mix of bear oil and bees wax; .490 ball.I primed with the 3f powder as well. Good luck and enjoy!

    Sourcing powder in WNY

There is a shop on Route 62 in Russell Pennsy, between Warren and the NY border that has carried Goex. I've picked up the occasional can there when I was in a pinch. Be prepared to pay over $20/lb. It is a nice gunshop, friendly folks and very helpful. The name is something like Tailfeathers or...

    Cleaning of the breechplug face???

Hot Water!! I plug the vent with a toothpick and pour hot water down the barrel, let it soak for about 5 minutes while I work on cleaning the lock. Thumb over the end of the muzzle and shake it a bit, pour it out and repeat. After that wipe dry with patches and oil. BP fouling is very soluble in...

    Distressing Leather....

E-Z Off Oven Cleaner! Spray it on, give it a minute, wipe it off and rinse with cold water. If it is not distressd enough apply a second coat. Wear eye protection and rubber gloves!!!It is lye (aka caustic) you only get one set of eyes, don't screw them up. I have done this to a number of knife...

    Best Method to Age brass(patina)

I laid out the part on a concrete block outside in the yard, sprinkled a little 4f on it, about the same amount as for priming, and lit it off. Then I used a patch to rub it around and left it to age.Worked just fine for me.

    Chambers Flintlock........

Texcl I used LMF browning solution over about 3 days to rust and slightly pit the barrel and lock, then I rubbed it all off with coarse steel wool. After that I used cold blue solution and then rubbed that back with 0000 steel wool to get the patina I wanted. I've done this to knives and figured...

    Chambers Flintlock........

Houchins I built a Chambers Mark Silver Virginia rifle last winter. It was my first build. Jim and Barbie were great to deal with; both before I made the buy and for questions I had as I went along with the build. My gun has the wood patchbox, it is 58 cal. I do a bit of woodworking; build my...

Thanks! I heard back from Ray, I can either have a barrel made by TVM (Tenn Valley Mfg. ) or for a slight upcharge one from Colerain.

    Sitting Fox Colonial Fowler ????

I've about made my mind up on getting this kit from Sitting Fox, Ray has been a real pleasure to deal with. Does anyone have any experience with the gun and especially the barrels? My wonderings are more towrds balance and feel. I've been told that some fowler barrels out on the market tend to...

    Pedersoli Frontier Rifle

I have the same gun and it favors 70 gr of FFF with a .010 patch and a .490 round ball. I prime with the same FFF that I load with. I used this for my hunting load and since accuracy was so good, shot it a shoots as well.I use a spit patch for shooting and an OxYoke prelubed patch for hunting...

Bear Jaw Knife - ? on Fittting the Handle

Wick, I removed the lower jaw from the skull and split it at the front, so the right and left halves fit next to each other. Well almost next to each other. I figure I need to file them flat, but they won't match up perfectly. Yes the tang of the knife would be hidden or buried somewhere in the...

Bear Jaw Knife - ? on Fittting the Handle

I'm making up a bear jaw knife for a prize at our local shoot and have a question for those who have made one or have one. What is used to fill the gap between the jaw halves when you fit them together? There is no way they can be sanded flat without removing the rear molar on each side. I could...

Chambers' Silver / Virgina Rifle Kit

Robert, Give the folks at Chambers a call and ask them about the issue described in your attachemnt. Everything on mine lined up correctly. In fact I had to remove wood from behind the tang and breech in order to get it to fit. Elevations and alignment with the lock were very good. I talked with...
