    Lyman Deerstalker

I've had a left hand flintlock Deerstalker .50 caliber for nine years. I'm very happy with it, it shoots well and I've used it to take a doe. To hunt in the post Christmas flintlock season in Pennsylvania you have to use a flintlock so it was the best option for me. I'm sorry hear it is...

    Snake Shot

I remember seeing an article in Backwoodsman by a guy who used a gas check over his shot loads for snakes. Also remember reading about a guy who hammered a lead ball into a think disk and used that over his shot.

Toe plate width on Investarms rifle

I'm working on a Dixie Gun Works Investarms 'Hawken', the kit does not include a toe plate but I'm thinking of adding one. What width should I shoot for on the bottom of the stock? It started out rather wide after I removed the belly. A half inch wide toe plate looks good to me but I'd...

    Hawken Investarm Kit

Very well done you made the trigger guard stand out, it looks like it was made from sheet brass. At least to my eyes. I also like the darkened brass. Good luck with your future projects.

    different sight for lyman deerstalker

I have to say I like the receiver sight too. I have a Lyman 57 on my Marlin 336. At the time I bought my Deerstaker Pennsylvania did not allow a peep sight to be used during the flint lock season so I went with the V-Peep. The Lyman sight is very good if you like a peep sight.

    Hawken Investarm Kit

Thank you for posting the follow-up photos of the completed rifle. You did a really nice job. Did you use the trigger guard that came with the rifle? I really like what you did with the patch box too. How does it shoot?

    Hawken Investarm Kit

Wow nice work. I have the .50 caliber left hand flintlock version of your kit, I bought it from Dixie Gun Works. I've gotten stuck and have not worked on it for several months. I guess in a way it's the kit I could afford, lefty's don't have many options, but not the kit I want...

    Measuring Powder Charge By Hand

You could call it the Justin Wilson method. One of his gags was to pour a teaspoon full of salt by pouring it into his hand then using a measuring to show the audience how good he was.

    Dixon's Muzzleloader Shop

Dietrich's scrapple is very good too we always buy a couple pounds. The mush they sell however is not very good, at least not to our taste. My wife makes better fried mush.

    Dixon's Muzzleloader Shop

Dixon's is a great place to visit. I left with more money then I brought on Saturday, my shotgun sold. I left some of it at Deitrich's. We had the garlic sausage tonight for dinner it was really nice. I live 45 minutes away and I'm always looking for a reason to visit.

    removing excess wood?

Does it have a breech plug I can't see or is that all barrel with the back part un-drilled and slotted for the trigger and hammer? Really nice I wish I had the skill make something like that.
