    Arbor Problem?

    I have been told that old Uberti's are better than old Pietta's and that new Pietta's are better than new Uberti's. I have not done or heard of a comparison test. Has anyone else?

    Getting too many misfires

    I take pipe cleans and run the end of one down the channel to ensure the channel is clear and free of any oil or debris, especially if I have had a misfire. (I rarely do have a misfire, but it does sometimes happen to the best of us.)

    The Hawken and other great plains rifle designs came about because of the bigger game out west. Lewis & Clark reported that they were going to need larger caliber rifles due to bison, grizzly bears, and such.

    They say, "Beauty is in the Eye of the Beholder." I like many historical time periods. I find many different styles of muzzleloaders beautiful. I do like the American Colonial rifles, and I like the Hawken style rifles too.

    It looks like some redneck attached the scope to the musket. Who knew that the French had rednecks even back then.

    I know. That was my point. A mule can be of either sex. Males are always sterile. A female might not be.

    Historical load?

    Remember, our ancestors, out on the frontier, used the smallest caliber and the smallest powder charge that would still do the job. They had a difficult time getting resupplied, so they did their best to make stuff last.

    Why can't you type a new version of this yourself? You can do it with WORD or EXCEL. If you have an Old School manual typewriter that would work too. If you do it with WORD or EXCEL you can print a new copy any time you need one.

    Target shooting. Roundball .440 vs .445

    I have a 45 caliber Pedersoli Missouri River Hawken rifle. Thru trial and error, I have gotten the best accuracy, target shooting, with a .445 round ball, .012 patch, and 40 grains of Goex FFF.

    Flintlock flinching

    If you record yourself shooting a shotgun you can audit how you handle it. I didn't even realize I was flinching until I fired a shotgun and the shell didn't go off. It was quite obvious to me, and my friends, how much I flinched. With that knowledge I began working on stopping it.
