    Civil war guns terminal ballistics

Jaeger, you are making me hungry! lol. I got to see first hand what a 58 caliber conical shot out of a CW gun will do deer hunting this year. The second deer I got, I hit in the back leg, the Maxi Hunter traveled up its femur (leg bone) and exited out the back rump. The entire rump of the...

Problems with my Euroarms Enfield M 1858 Naval

I took my Euroarms 1858 2 band Enfield out today and shot Maxi-balls for the first time. I used my usual 85 grains of Pyrodex. I prelubed my barrel with butter bore before the first shot. Put a life size poster of a buck 75 yards out. I aimed for the heart area. My first shot was low and to...

    Civil War Guns

Thanks to both of you. I keep my eye on the N-SSA forum and drool at the guns they have for sale. I always look at the forum and forgot they have a website. Thanks for the offer, I'll see if I can get the past copy or I will get back to you. Yes, I'm interested in anything that has to do...

Problems with my Euroarms Enfield M 1858 Naval

The Euroarms 1858 has the 48 twist. The T/C maxi hunters are 560 grains lubed with bore butter. From what I read in forums, most don't have good luck with the maxi hunter, but mine seems to like them. Seems to like deer too. I hope we hear from other 2 band owners and Euroarms Enfields...

    Civil War Guns

I went back and visited your website again and the links to see if I have missed anything. Again, very informative and good reading. My problem is I have the 1858 2 band naval version and most info is on the 3 band 1853 version. As you know, different barrel length and twist. Info on the...

Problems with my Euroarms Enfield M 1858 Naval

I bought the exact gun last year. My first shot is usually low about 6 inches, after that it is right on. To rememdy the first shot problem, I run a patch with bore butter on it down the muzzle a few times. When i first started shooting it was shooting to the left a hair also. I looked at...

    When Hunting.........

I carry 6 speed loaders with 85 grains of pyrodex in them. I carry a small clear plastic container with 6 separate compartments (can be bought a a drub store). 3 compartments have 6 Maxi - Hunters and the other 3 compartments have percussion caps. I have found that I don't need to speed load...

    Target range ideas?

Great ideas thanks! I'm surprised I didn't hear anything about moving targets though. It is a lot of fun and you wouldn't beleive how hard it is to hit. Although the cheerio idea sounds pretty tough too.

    Target range ideas?

Shooting my 1860 Colt Army or my 1858 Enfield rifle is very relaxing to me. I'm fortunate to have access to our family farm and do all my shooting there. Last year, I put in a "target range". Basically it is a few stationary ground targets and a moving deer target. I want to replace the...

Is there a "Big Caliber Syndrome" ?

My thoughts exactely Roundball. I bought a 58 last year and it makes my 50 look like a bb gun. I used my 58 for the first time deer hunting this year and it is a awesome deer slayer. I enjoy shooting my 50, but the 58 is by far my choice for muzzleloading now.

    .58 Enfield shooting erratic

Check the rear sight. I have a Euroarms Enfield also and the sights are fixed, but if you look at the rear sight, the base peice is welded, but the sight mounted on that (the flip up sight) can click over(left or right) with pressure from your thumb. It moves about 3 hairs.

    Where to aim

I usually try a heart shot, if I miss it usually hits the lungs. Either way, my 58 caliber will knock it down. Neck shots are the best, they are dead before they hit the ground. I hunt with a group who only uses shotguns. This year (my 26th year carrying a gun) I used my smokepole and my...

    On-Line check -in in Illinois

The major factor in closing the stations is money. The state is broke. They still have check in stations in CWD counties and surronding coutnies. They check in stations compiled a lot of info over the years. It would be interesting to see the results. I personally don't miss driving to...
