    2009 ML Elk

Well buddy as you know from our conversation yesterday I have yet to make meat for my family. The backstrap you gave me however sure does eat mighty fine! The meat from any animal will be gone the next year, but the memories of such a great hunt with my son and great friend will be here forever.I...

    Back Country Hunters, Water Question

I use a pure hiker, pretty much the same as a Katadyn.I know people who have gotten giardia and dang near died from it!!I am not going to take the chance,I live right next to the Frank Church wilderness here in Idaho. The best way to avoid an accident is to be prepared for it.

Moose with my .50 or .54

I really appreciate everyones thoughts on this! I will practice with the .54 and keep the shot at or under 50yds,failing to close the distance to that range I will use the .50 and a 495gr conical.I will have a buddy so taking both rifles is the best scenario I think.

Moose with my .50 or .54

I do plan on shooting PRB's, I do have a hawken that is 1:32 twist for conicals and groups 495gr No Excuses lead conicals real well, but would prefer to use my roundball guns.I also have a .50 in an unmentionable firearm, but I would use my 300 weatherby if I wanted to shoot it with a copper...

I have a couple of Lyman GPR's a .50 in caplock and a .54 flint.I just got the flint and Iam going to start learning how to shoot it this summer. The caplock I have had for many years and it is a tack driver out to 125yds (1 to 2" groups at 100yds)I love this rifle and have the utmost confidence...

    Idaho DFG / Traditional ML

We can use real BP or any of the substitutes as long as it's loose and not smokeless.

    Idaho Decides traditional only

I love my sidelocks and recently got my first flintlock, however I have 2 knights and a white that i fully intend to use in the short range and any weapon seasons.I don't get what all the sniveling is about.I prefer shooting my sidelocks but enjoy all my firearms.

    Idaho DFG / Traditional ML

The boys from the modern muzzeloading sights are using this oppertunity to flood the IDFG with their 2 cents worth! I have been checking the other sites and full advantage is being taken by the inliners.

    Idaho DFG / Traditional ML

I know my .50 cal Prb will kill a deer or Elk, or moose etc. If the new rules on caliber and weight are adopted this effectively becomes a .54 cal state if you like PRB's. I wonder if all the other states that allow .40 cal as the minimum's animals are just totally wimpy compared to our manly...

    Idaho DFG / Traditional ML

Ours are .45 for deer and .50 for elk.I for one will protest loudly alongside IDRB if they want to mess with the our balls :nono: I am sure Toby and company are about to tell us how backward and out of touch we really are. :yakyak:

    Lyman Great Plains Rifle

I already owned a caplock GPR(.50), it was so accurate and great to shoot that I recently aquired a flintlock version with a .50 and .54 1:60 twist barrels. The friend that I buy 25lb cases of powder with said our new shipment just arrived, it contains some 4f for priming and I am ready! I can't...

    First flintlock

I recently purchased my first flintlock, it is a GPR.I got it off auction arms and it came with a .50 and.54 barrel the gun was immaculately taken care of,I got it for $350.00 so it was like getting two rifles for $175.00 apiece  I can hardly wait to take it out and start playing!

    Thinking of buying GPR flintlock

I have had a GPR .50 in perc for a couple years now and it is a very fine shooter.I just got a GPR off auction arms that arrived today,it is used but is in excellent condition. This rifle is a flintlock and came with a .50 and .54 cal barrel(two guns for the price of one  )I can hardly...

Loads for 1 in 20 twist barrel.

I have a 1:28 twist green mountain barrel for shooting conicals out of my .50 hawken, when playing around I have found that I get good accuracy out of PRB and 60grs of ffg.I wouldn't hunt big game with this combo but it is he** on rabbits and squirrels.
