    What to do with rebar

Have you tried heat treating it? When I was in school we made center punches out of 3/4" rebar. We heat treated the end in Oil. I still use mine, 12 years later. I hated turning the bumps off with HSS. Wes

    First time shooting a handgonne!

The center drills I have are different from regular drills. They are bell shaped. Not the 30 degrees or whatever they are. I can post a picture if needed? Wes

    First time shooting a handgonne!

I get these bell shaped center drills from a vender at work. I drill all my vent holes with these for that reason. The opening is about 1/4" and the hole is 1/8". I think Enco might carry them? I'd have to look. Wes

    Need help with blade

That is a great looking knife you have there. I like the rawhide wrap. I decided to use brass pins to hold the blade onto the handle. I have the handle cut out. I set it up in my mill and cut the slot for the tang. I'll finish the design to the end of the tang. It looks pretty nice. As soon as...

    Need help with blade

Thanks for the compliments. I was planing on building another folder. That is why the tang was so wide. But I lost my head for a moment. I've been thinking of brazing a longer tang to it, then inletting the handle so you can still see the pattern I filed. I'll finish up the tang thats there now...

    Need help with blade

I started on a different blade to practice a couple things this weekend. It turned out pretty good and now I want to use it but I think I messed it up? I ground the blade back to far and I can't figure out how to mount a handle to it? The blade is 3/16 thick and 3" long. The tang measures about...

    First Knife

Thanks for the compliments, people. I have a question pertaining to this style of knife. The pin is a good fit on the blade and there is only about .010" clearance between the blade and the wood. The blade seems loose? Is there something that is used to keep the blade from falling open or is...

    First Knife

Great! Another hobby :rotf: :rotf: I made the pin on my small lathe. I plan on making a rivet for the other hole. The handle is a bit bigger that I wanted, but it fits my fat little fingers nice. That wood has lots of grain to it. I'm thinking about a natural oil finish. My wife thinks this...

    First Knife

Here's a picture or two of a folder I'm building. It's my first knife. The blade is made from a 1.5" band saw blade. I just ground it to shape. I'm going to add a brass bar to the tang. The handle is made out of some tropical hardwood. Umbuya I think? It I milled the inside for the blade...

    Brass Gonnes

I had some extra brass lying around and made a reproduction of a small gonne. I eyed a picture of this one on the net. I still need to come up with a stock for it. Any Ideas? It's kinda short at 5". I bored it out to .5". After I get a stock built I'll polish it to a high luster :grin...
