    bugs

Dryer sheets? You gotta be kiddin'. I hate the smell of my clothes when those things are used. An' when I'm in the woods, I don't wanna telegraph my presence to every black nose inside a mile. I'd rather cowboy up an' take the bugs' best shots.

    Still Hunting

I ain't much on binos. I do better sensin' where the critters will be rather than tryin' to pick 'em outta their natural habitat. Afor I went off across the big muddy to the shinin' mountings of Wyom, I used to stalk deer where the cedars meet the hardwoods. Always a good choice of trails...

    squirrel barking

The reason for barkin' a squirl is so you don't ruin the meat with a huge projectile. You wouldn't bark a squirl with a .22, but with a .50, to bark or shoot dead on is a choice of fillin' yer fryin' pan with tasty portions of breaded meat, or rinsin' guts off your food an' pickin' bone...

    Modern Day Mtn-Man

I used to know this guy called "Wild Bill" who lives in a cabin he built on the upper green north of Cora, Wyoming. Wild Bill dropped out after returning from Viet Nam. His mother gave him some land, and probably supported him off and on. He makes great period-correct clothing and gear, and...

    a home for jerimiah johnson

Good job, whiskey. I like the movie, but it would have been a real classic if Redford was a cannibal. John Johnston was once sheriff of Red Lodge, Montana, where he once kicked a drunk to death that violated the no guns in town law (remember the scene with Gene Hackman in Unforgiven?). They...

News Flash: Bad Things Happen to Good People

Primitive Weapons Area (Daniel Boone Nat Forest)?

As a yute, I hunted all over DBNF. Wasn't much there in the way of deer. Might be different nowadays. The locals pretty much used to shoot anything they saw when hunting. I'm pretty well-informed about the effectiveness of a .22 long rifle round on deer. Good luck on the hunt. If its...

    GPR sights question

I solved the problem on my GPR with a Tedd Cash front blade. Ding up the bottom of the base with a punch first so it slides in tight. I put som lock tite on mine too. The wide Tedd Cash is good even with my ol' whisky-soaked peepers. You have to file the sight down to the proper height, and...

    OK not to clean?

I hear ya, you ol' snakeoil seller. I'm itchin' to head to ronnyvoos at Friendship next year. Got me a new shirt an' everthin'. Why don't you try an make it down thar? I promise to ply you with good kaintuck likker an' cook up a batch of possum gizzards in yer honor. Anybody know if they...

Thankyee, thankyee. Such a warm welcome from some old farts with big harts, brung a tear to my eye (the one 'thout the patch over it - the other 'uns allays drippin'). Sorry I been long time answerin', I can't never find where I posted onct I leave a site. Too many categories for my...

    OK not to clean?

Most rocky mounting mules I've knowed, don't know what a apple is, and don't care for 'em. They do like carrots though. Why is a mystery for all times, since none grow there. Now you got me missing Boregard, dam you. Sniff, sniff.

Well that 'bout answers that all to heck. Thanks fellers.

    Small game caliber choice

Barkin' tree rats with a .50 cal....ain't nuthin' better. But you gotta have them big fat acorn-fed squirrels, not these ratty lil' western rock squirrels. Asides, the bark on rocks ain't nearly as good.

    Roundballs - Cast or Swaged?

I seem to get better accuracy with cast roundballs, even with the spew ridin' out front. Is there a reason softer lead would be more erratic?

    Triple 7

How different from BP is this stuff? I got a free pound from a pilgrim who came out to chase elk last fall (he couldn't take it back on the plane). So I'd like to shoot it up, but ain't got near an' idear how to charge my load.

    Elk Hunting

The key in hunting elk ain't the rifle or the bullet, its the tactics and the man employing those tactics. Of all the elk I've seen die, there has never been the NEED to shoot one at long range. Conicals give you better downrange performance, but if you are good with your roundballs out to 100...
