just for yucks, who has a potato "cannon"

I do, but admittedly mine is designed to shoot special paintball shot and not actual potatoes, which it does with another barrel. :rotf:

    I've been spiked

Depending on how they were spiked, ( I'm thinking maybe the pins were frozen to VERY low temps then hammered into the hole, where they warmed and expanded. though this would require a different metal than iron...) you may be able to remove the spikes by cooling the cannon then...

Shot load for cap & ball revolver?

Scrounger, this comes up allot when talking about slug bores in modern shotguns, IIRC it will make it scatter much more randomly than if it was shot out of a smoothbore but it won't hurt the rifling... :m2c:

Cap And Ball Revolvers For Personal Protection?

It depends, a full day & night out in a humid area could probably corrupt the powder & make it misfire. Whereas a week in a 0% humidity area would probably do nothing. :imo:

    YEEEEEEEEE-HAR

Robin, just pointing this out (its all assumption), what if as others have said it was filled with people's jewelry or (even worse) a ship's log is behind there being ground on by that acid? :shocking: :nono:

    HORNERS I need your advise!

:hmm: Do you plan to dye it or leave it white (I know nothing about horns but when a stock is gouged and you need to fill it you usually stain to match)? If you plan not to dye it I would try a clear epoxy mixed with dust from sanding the horn, for a perfect color match.

    fingerwoven straps

I think I agree with you, what are the odds of finding enough of the EXACTLY MATCHING fabric/thread in a frontier/voyage situation? That in it's self would be a small miracle. You're handmande gear would probably be made out of scraps from other projects. :imo: :m2c:

the bolded ones were meant to say fuse, not grenade. I have no clue what kinda retarded moment made me type it like that.

    Flintlock Mortor VERY COOL

Stumpy, I I was of the impression that they fired with fuse out and the unburnt powder from the launching ignited ther fuse as it left the barrel? I mean if they did it with grenade-in, it would definetly push the grenade in and make the greandier into a pile of mush. :nono:

    Flintlock Mortor VERY COOL

I see what you are saying, but my line of thinking was that, like a sniper (operating a barett .50 caliber) today, they got special training and an according rank so they were technichally officers. Though you are probably right.
