What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Took the Colt Walker to the range today, but at 100 yards. Forgot to take my filler so just loaded 55gn Swiss 2f and a .457 ball. Sights were pretty much bang on so cracked on and rang steel from rest then had a go off hand. 4 out of 6 hit so I called it a day before we moved back to 200 and...

Where to buy flints in UK?

Where do you find the local knappers? I am only a couple of miles from you.

    New to black powder shooting

Welcome from the UK. My personal recommendation for starting out in the dark arts would be a percussion gun. Flintlocks will be a much steeper learning curve, maybe steep enough to put you off for and we don't want that!

    Smith Carbine percussion nipple dimensions

The rifle hasn't been delivered yet. I am just trying to get ahead of the game.

    Smith Carbine percussion nipple dimensions

Quite possibly, however, knowing the dimensions will make life much easier, hence the question. Plus I am not sure I want to pay the premium for hewn from solid billet unobtanium with unicorn horn tools from Dyson's.

    Unfortunately not.

    Smith Carbine percussion nipple dimensions

Hi, Does anyone know the nipple thread size for the original Smith Carbine. I want to buy a new nipple but I don't know the dimensions. I do see some on the US websites but none of them want to ship to the UK for some reason. Thanks, Matthew

WANTED Smith Carbine - But in the UK

I am trying to find out if anyone has a Smith Carbine for sale in the UK. I am in the process of getting a .50 Rifle variation so original preferred but replica would be considered. I see some for sale in the US but getting it shipped to the UK would be prohibitively expensive I believe. PM...

    James Dixon powder flask spring

Thanks for the offer, however, I managed to find a YouTube video and ended up making my own spring. It's not perfect, but it does work.

Increased Prices of Replica Percussion Revolvers

I would love to insist that for every new gun law that they propose the politicians must demonstrate how the existing laws, if applied properly, failed to cover the issue. Is shooting someone illegal? Yep. Did the perpetrator ignore that law? Yep. Ok, so what are you proposing that would have...

    ...and another 1847 Walker question

For target work I load my Walker with 20gn Swiss 3F then fill the rest of the chamber with semolina or similar, then top with a.457 cast ball or occasionally Johnson and Dow bullet. I seem to remember that cylinders have a slight taper so unless you backfill with something the ball will be more...

    To unload or not?

Just a quick question for anyone who has been on a driven shoot with a muzzle loader. At the end of each drive do you just remove the caps and leave the shotgun loaded or fire off the loaded barrels? Never having been on a shoot with a muzzle loader I don't know what the normal practice is. I...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Thems the rules. I imagine that it is because should anything happen there is nobody to phone for help. Makes sense, however, it was somewhat annoying.
