    Damaged breech plug

Put some kind of coloring on the face of the plug then thread into the barrel. Then remove to see if is hitting the shoulder of the inside of the barrel (rifling portion) if so go with it.

Getting the best from my Parker Hale

If u are shooting minnies you need to size the bullet 1 to 2 ths. under bore size. You need to find out the bore size and go from there. In addition the base plug needs to modified . Moose molds sells a mold with this modification, plus you can get the gun to shoot with a lot less powder.

    Powder falling out

The frizzen has to be moved back. Had it happen with a Davis early Jaeger lock. I tapped and inserted a screw in the frizzen hole then jigged it up and relocated the hole. I did it with the frizzen jigged up in the lock assy. The only problem I had I lost the frizzen screw threads. Had to go to...

If you have a replacement spring heat temper it in your oven around 375 deg around 40 minutes and let it air cool . I thin all my frizzen and main springs on a belt sander using the roller...

What flintlock style should I consider?

I built all my guns Pa. Lancaster style. Over the years I got tired of carry the long guns so I built a German Jaeger with a sling in 50 cal. If I built another one I would make it in 54 cal. just to make it a hair lighter. They are a very well balanced gun. Hope this helps. The older u get the...

    Flint maintenance

Buy a silcone carbide green grinding wheel. Cuts a flint like butter. I have to trim the back of my flints so they will go back far enough into the jaws to give me clearance between the flint and frizzen at half cock plus I can take some of the top with high lobes

Boring a barrel to a larger caliber

I had two barrels relined by him. He most likely can bore yours out and rifle without relining. If he relines tell him you want the hard steel liner. He does excellent work.
