    Sharps carbine loading question

Hello out there, Has anyone tried American Pioneer Powder in any of its forms in a Sharps carbine using a paper cartridge ? I am trying to use it because it makes it easy using as cast un-lubricated bullets and the great ease of cleaning.. Any information will be appreciated. Yr' Obt' Svt' Bunk

    shot loads 1851 Colt Navy

Testing shot in an 1851 Colt Navy 3 ½ inch barrel. The results so far came out inconclusive since the only shot I had was #7 ½ perhaps a finer shot like #9 might have worked better. The chamber held about 30 grain volume of FFFg GOEX powder. My calculation was a “square load” would be...

    lube over ball

the load is 25 grains FFFg, a felt lube wad, a .451" ball. I decided to do this test after the cylinder was loaded . The lube used is a lard and paraffin wax mix about the consistency of SPG. As you can see the lubricant is blown away by gas escaping the barrel/cylinder gap, which is minimum. It...

    Musket cap question

Hello the camp, Can anyone tell me how long it has been since RWS packaged musket caps in a metal can of 250 caps. I lucked into 2 cans sealed with a red tape at a garage sale not long ago for a whopping fifty cents a can. They seem to work all right on my Sharps carbine. Am I shooting up a...

    Sharps problem

The problem is even with very mild loads consisting of 30 grains FFg powder and a 450 grain ring tail bullet the hammer is blown back to half cock. The nipple orifice is about number 42 wire drill and obviously is too big. In the parts box is a musket nipple 1/4"x 32 thread that has a tiny...

    Green River Rifle

During my recent moves the mid ram rod thimble on my GRRW marked (bottom flat) .50 rifle got knocked loose. It was held on by the thinnest line of solder and rust. There is one screw in the rib that is not going to come off soldering it back in place is out of the question. Hopefully some JB...

    other than steel shot

Gentlemen, With waterfowl season upon us I found Rotometals has bismuth based shot in stock. It ain't cheap, but how much duck hunting do you do? This is NOT a paid advertisement, I have no connection to Rotometals other than being a satisfied customer. Hold center Or perhaps a little ahead...

    Pedersoli double barrel

The newest acquisition is a Pedersoli 12 gauge percussion double barrel. Percussion shotguns are a whole new world for me. I use 4 c/c FFg powder over powder and fiber filler wads and the same dipper of shot for my unmentionable Pioneer 12 gauge double barrel. Would that be about a good...

    Filler

Any thoughts about using tumbler media (ground corncob) to take up space in revolver light loads to bring the ball closer to the chamber mouth? Round there parts we eat corn meal and grits not shoot it. Yr' Obt' Svt' Bunk
