    Traditions Shenandoah Rifle

We are on our second one (the first was stolen in a break-in). These are good guns for the money. Both in 50 cal. Reasonably accurate and fairly robust. Good camping guns, great "starter" guns. Gave mine to my daughter at 14 years, when it was stolen she wanted another just like it. Great for...

    Ultrasonic cleaning

I have a small one from H.F. that I use to clean the rifle locks from time to time, but the Bess lock does not fit.

    where to buy lead

I asked about lead last time I took the cans to the recycler and ended uo with an old lead shower pan that seems to work great, particularly for my smooth bore brown bess loads.

Range report Super Bang Ring Caps and CCI magnums

I confess, I have seen these and always wondered if they would work. Thanks for the experiment. Back in the late 70's I bought and used a home-made cap making machine called a tap-o-cap, that formed caps out of aluminum from cans, then you put two toy caps in them. They wotked just over half...

    Tradition vs Pedersoli

Hey Doc C. Congratulations on your new rifle, I'll bet you have lots of fun with it. I always feel like a happy kid with a new smoke pole, whether flint or cap. I have shot them for over 30 years and have yet to own a gun that takes a cartridge. Best wishes.

    Flash guard install question

I have a Siler Delux and used one of the kits to instal the flashguard. It worked fine, was not difficult at all. I have always had to have a flashguard so I'm used to it and don't find them a problem at all.

    Cotton Flannel at Walmart

We tend to like flannel sheets here at the TxRambler house, and when they are worn out they are recycled as cleaning patches.

    NMLRA Muzzleblasts Magazine

In fact I dropped my membership in NMLRA several years ago, and also out of the blue received their magazine this week, but haven't read it yet. I think about a week before the magazine an envelope came with their logo but I didn't read it. Things get busy here during the Christmas season.

    Great Time at the Range

I frequently get one or two to try it, six is unusual. The best was when we saw a BS Troop out earning their shooting badges. We offered (there were two of us) and they took us up on the offer. One of us loading while the other coached. There must have been 15 or so, and severel came back for...

    Great Time at the Range

Had a great morning at the rifle range. Good weather and fun shooting, but most importantly six people that have never shot a traditional muzzleloader can now say they have fired a flintlock, and one was a kid (about 12 years old). One guy had so much fun he asked where he could get one.

    Parts for Traditions Tennessee Rifle

Thank you Steve, been looking all over for a Traditions lock part and didn't know about them. They had it.

    Bore butter recipe?

Seems like I read years ago (I think it was here) that it was basically beeswax and olive oil, and that is what I use. I use one part melted beeswax to four parts olive oil. Bee careful melting and/or heating wax and oil, some folks recommend a double boiler. This works great in my climate most...

    Top Jaw Screw

On this gun (Traditions Shenandoah), leather for the flint (on the Bess I have sometimes used lead, but heavy military locks are different). But there was one or more previous owners and I can't say what they may have used. This is not a new rifle, but relatively new to me. Other than this the...

    Top Jaw Screw

Making one would be a nice project, when time permits. But for now, the hex head screw has put the only gun my daughter can use back in commission for the rest of the season at least. :)

    Top Jaw Screw

This is a Traditions Shenandoah that is at least second hand maybe third. The screw, when removed, was actually stripped and bent (but not by me). Traditions said they have no more screws but will sell me thier last lock (per the e-mail) for about $150. L&R says the parts for their replacement...

    Top Jaw Screw

The other problem is, while replacing a flint yesterday in my daughters gun, the top jaw screw stripped, and so now I'm looking for a replacement. That's how I came acrross this thread. Even from the manufacturer will take a while si I need to go to the hardware store and get something that will...
