No sweat, Karma. Forum Posts don't offend me.

Inquiry about current replica percussion revolvers

"I suspect he’ll be happy with the Uberti cylinder pins, which are all of adequate length". I know of one Uberti that had an adequte arbor. It was an early one.

Uberti short arbor fix takes only a few minutes.

What thread size are the nipples for the Centaure 1960 Army?

FOR SALE Centaure Belgian Made 1860 Army Revolver

"Go to the FROCS website and it will give you a detailed rundown on the history of the Centaures" Yeah, I'm familiar with the Frocs website. The Centaures are well made pistols and quite attractive in appearace, though I do wish they were more faithful replicas of the Colts dimensionally. I...

FOR SALE Centaure Belgian Made 1860 Army Revolver

What's rare about it? I've owned mine for over 60 years.

    Arbor Problem?

Yes, my intention with the extra percussion cylinder was to use it as a test piece for fit and mechanical operation with the thought that it would probably rupture if fired. I will probably rupture it on purpose by deliberate overload both to see what it will take and to keep anyone else from...

    Arbor Problem?

    Oops, sorry bout that.

    Arbor Problem?

Why not do what I want to do ? :) For one thing, a .357 Ruger SSA is much larger and does not in the least resemble an 1862 Colt Police. For another, as you know, rupturing a modified replacement cylinder does no damage to the original Uberti. Also, it is both possible and feasible to modify...

    Arbor Problem?

I've been thinking about converting a Uberti 1862 Police to .380acp, but would have to do an 0.008" thick chrome electroplate on the interior of the barrel and front of the chambers to reduce the diameter (round headspaces on the case mouth) and would most likely need to scratchbuild a cylinder...

    Arbor Problem?

"The arbor is in tension, not shear". The arbor itself is in tension - BUT the load between the wedge and the end of the arbor slot is carried as a shear load at the front end of the arbor. Think back to your Strengths of Materials courses. Because of that, as long as the proposed arbor screw...

    Arbor Problem?

I did Basic and AIT at Fort Dix in the Fall of 1967. Spent a lot of time listening to Ode to Billie Joe (reminded me of home). Spent a lot of time on KP drinking chocolate milk and peeling potatos. Gained 8 ounces during training. Temperature was in the 80s and low 90s. Trainees were all from...

I'm using the factory wedge with .45acp in my Uberti 1860. No problems.

    Arbor Problem?

"and that new Pietta's are better than new Uberti's". How closely does the Pietta 1862 Police revolver replicate the original Colt? How closely does the Uberti 1862 Police revolver replicate the original Colt?

    Arbor Problem?

Explain to us how the shear strength is affected by the arbor screw. Feel free to use equations if it will help. I'm also interested in why regular wedges are capable of withstanding undamaged the loads produced by 6 chamber chainfires, but are not capable of coping with normal use.

    Arbor Problem?

Stock wedge made out of ordinary everyday steel will withstand a 6 chamber chainfire without damage. How strong do they need to be?
  17. J

    Arbor Problem?

It is there for a reason, but that doesn't enter into the shear strength calculation.
  18. J

    Arbor Problem?

"I respectfully disagree about strength" I got no problem with that :-)
  19. J

    Arbor Problem?

"Drilling and tapping the end of these arbor slots is going to make them weaker than if left alone in their solid steel configuration" As long as the drill/tap diameter is less than the slot width, it will have NO effect on the arbor SHEAR strength. And shear strength controls in this case...

    Arbor Problem?

Arbor end is loaded in shear at the edges of the slot, so drilling and tapping for a screw won't weaken it. How difficult is bois d'arc wood to work with?
