    Making percussion caps

I have had the Tap-o-cap since 1975. I lost the paper punch, recently I sourced a 4mm paper punch. However no roll caps were to be bought anywhere. If found an on-line source. Tintoyarcade.com. The have lots. They are real people who answer the phone and return calls. They are a bit...

    0.20" (5mm) Lead balls

I made a 22 ML long ago and got good accuracy. I recently made a target pistol out of a length of 22 short barrel. I wanted to experiment with patched balls. I found some at a shot shell reloading outfit. Those will cost me $65 for 10#, I only need a handful to see if the idea has merit...

    Swabbing between shot for safety.

I intend to propose a rule change for my club. We are required to wet swab between shoots, this includes revolver cylinders. We shoot only patched balls and revolvers. I believe this rule is unnecessary. I see many failure to fire situations every shoot cause by wet swabbing. I think...

    Leather lost it's strength??

Two years ago I made a bag out out of 5oz veggie tan. I used vinegar iron stain followed by neat's foot oil. The straps are now easily torn with my fingers. The bag was stored indoors. The unused parent leather stock is still strong. Any idea what went wrong? Anything I can do the...

    Tap-O-cap hole punch?

I have my old Forresters Tap-O-cap device. I lost the hole punch for cutting out the roll caps. My measurements indicate the punch should be about 0.16" . It is necessary to center the cap in the punch accurately, so it needs to be a pliers type. Al leather punch will not work. A hammer...

    Revolver conicals

I reamed my 1858 chambers to 0.452". It shoots much better with balls. 2" at 25 yards or so. Conicals? Better still? What size? I was considering having Accurate Molds make me a mold to the specs in the attached picture. Any comments on the dimensions or the idea in general?

    Decent nipples

I got a set of Track nipples for a Pedersoli 1858. They sere too soft. After about 200 shots the nipples were riveted enough that capping became a struggle. The top edges were distorted and uneven. I did not dry fire. I ruined one while filing the cone to the more correct contour. Who...

    1858 Navy 36 ?

I'm having fun with my 1858 Army 44. The chambers were undersized relative to the groove diameter. I fixed that. I tuned it. It shoots well. I can not help but wonder if a 36 would be more ergonomically accurate. But what about the old undersized chamber problem? Anyone know if any...
