First Date with a French Dragoon

How much of a hassle was it to build that MBS kit? I’ve been eyeing an English Dragoon kit. -Jake

    Let’s see them hunting knives

My English trade styled knife. It’s a Jeff White that I finished the grips on to match my maple stocked rifle. A little larger than I like for deer processing but great in the kitchen. -Jake

Anyone make a small concealable percussion pistol

This is my “spitting distance” ruffian deterrent. -Jake

Any Lyman Plains Pistol fans here?

I’ve been happy with the rust blue on several flintlocks I’ve finished, provides a nice contrast between the wood and steel. I just finished rust browning a tomahawk head and it’s fine but seems a little “off” next to my blued ones Decisions! -Jake

Any Lyman Plains Pistol fans here?

Bought a .54 kit yesterday and am impatiently awaiting its arrival. I’ve got a flint Pedersoli Kentucky in .54 but wanted something I could load a little hotter for hunting. Now I’m conflicted. Would it be proper to rust brown or blacken the metal parts? I’ve got time to figure it out, I’m...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Got the barrel and double triggers fitted to the SMR stock. Got the front and rear sights fitted to the barrel. The rear dovetail had one side that was unusually shallow, so I’m playing with that some to make the rear sight work. Also made a third test blank for how I’m going to finish the...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Got my Kibler SMR kit in .45 with a cherry stock about a week ago. Slowly fitting parts together in my spare time today. Also playing with some wood finishes for the cherry. -Jake

Learning to shoot a 12ga SxS

I have an IC choke to try if I plan to hunt small game at closer distances. I hadn’t really intended to do much hunting with this thing but now you’ve got the gears turning and you’re right, that full choke is about perfect for a turkey’s head at 25 yards or maybe even farther. I may try...

Learning to shoot a 12ga SxS

I was holding my face too forward on the stock the first few shots and got a few good thumps on the cheek. A little repositioning fixed everything up. I’m looking forward to doing some more clay shooting and trying to zero my round ball loads at 25 yards. If only it would cool off a little bit...

Learning to shoot a 12ga SxS

I’ve shot unmentionable shotguns my whole life and even experimented with shot in my Brown Bess for a bit, but I finally decided to get a Pedersoli SxS to do some real patterning and clay shooting. All for fun of course. My model has the interchangeable chokes. Not terribly HC, but I bought a...

    Derringer?

I have a Liegi and haven’t figured out how to hit the broad side of a barn with it yet. That said, it’s a really neat and well made little pistol. -Jake

    WANTED Shot Snake/Pouch and Flask

Looking for a shot snake/pouch with an English or Irish spout and a metal powder flask to go with it. Let me know what you have available. I’ve been having a hard time finding what I’m looking for online. -Jake

    What did you do today

Tested the muff gun some. It will pass through a full 1 gallon water jug, kind of curious how much oomph 12gr of powder behind a .457 round ball actually has. I’ll try to find a second jug without two holes. -Jake

    Colt 1860 Army (1861)

A Johnston and Dow conical bullet attached to a paper cartridge would be period correct for this firearm. Eras Gone sells custom moulds to make your own and I believe Jefferson Arsenal was selling them in small batches as well...

Range time with New Orleans Ace #1

Here’s my Pedersoli .44 with a .380 case used as a cap safety. Perfect for carry in a coat pocket while walking the dog. -Jake

    Carrying Flintlock Pistols

While hunting with my rifle, I’ve simply stuffed the pistol in my belt on my left side for a cross draw with my right hand. If I was walking or climbing much I’d likely add a hammer stall just to be a little safer. -Jake
