    Lyman Rifle Accuracy

This is fatiguing. The only reason l have a Lyman GPR is it is or was the only reasonablely priced Hawkin style rifle I could afford. If anything else was available from an American manufacturer that is what I would have. It is rather crudely assembled and probably from a relatively mild steel...

    Lyman Rifle Accuracy

I have a Lyman GPR in 54 and someone in an earlier post indicated that my load of 110 grs FFFG with a PRB was higher than shown in the manual that came with the gun. My GPR was purchased in 2018 and the manual does indicate a max charge of 100grs which I never checked cause I have the LYMAB...

    Lyman Rifle Accuracy

I shoot 110 Grs Graff FFFg with a patched ball all the time in my Lyman Plains Rifle . My feeling is a 2 or 3 inch group at 100 is possible if your eyes are good enough. I usually don't shoot farther than 75

Lyman Plains Rifle -A stuck ball and grease

Well it wasn't a dry ball the powder charge was in there. The ball got stuck about half way down. I had forgotten my range rod which is steel and my delrin (plastic) rod was not stiff enough to push it down. I am the only one in my group that hunts with BP and I was just shooting at cans at...

Lyman Plains Rifle -A stuck ball and grease

Well last weekend I stuck a ball. Being a former boy scout I had bought some 6mm x.75 alemite fittings for just such an occasion . Man you can blow a ball right out with a grease gun. However, what a mess. HAHAHA

Lapping the Barrel with JB bore Paste

Attached is a picture of the only recovered patch from this weekend ( only fired two shots). I don't know if this says anything but you don't see any rifling marks or much powder burn

Lapping the Barrel with JB bore Paste

Just to respond to some of your comments My load is a Hornaday .530 Round ball 110 grains FFFG Graff Powder .018" Pillow ticking pre cut patches from Track CCI , Rem , and or RWS Caps Mink Oil Lube from Track My goal was to just get the bore lapped enough so I could shoot 3 to 5 shots without...

Lapping the Barrel with JB bore Paste

Well finally got out to test my barrel. The lapping I did was not enough . Got a ball stuck on the 3rd shot and had to pump it out with a grease gun and an alemite fitting ,what a mess . Going to try a hundred more strokes with fine scotch bright pad.

Powder for Longer or Shorter Barrels.

I use 110 g of Graff fffg behind a .530 ball and .18 pillow ticking patches. (Lyman Plains Rifle). The recoil doesn't seem bad to me.

    Set Trigger

If I loosen the the rear screw I can get it to set. However the rear screw is only in by 2 treads and seems very loose . Also the springs are so loose they are moving around on the plate.
