    Gun range

I guess I'm fortunate. Here in Pennsylvania the game commission has ranges on some local gamelands. I also am a member of a gun club only 1 mile from my house. If I didn't have those things, it wouldn't be quite as easy to go shoot.

Cleaning patch stuck at breach end.

A two prong worm (patch puller) has always worked for me. Something like the attachment below. You can even sharpen the prongs with a small file...

    Outfitting a newbie.

The link you got above is a good one. Honestly, shooting these kinds of guns can lend itself to getting lots of stuff. There are needs and nice to haves. You need to decide how much you want based upon what you're shooting (round ball bare or patched, varied shot loads) and why (range shooting...

    2f vs 3f

I'm agreeing with @Brokennock and have generally found I can get the same performance from a 3f load that is 5gr-10gr lighter, over my 2f powder. More shots per pound, generally less fouling, and the fact that it works fine in the pan are all reasons for appreciating 3f.

Need help picking a first rifle

@chiphasnoteeth that expression means that folks are dumping too much information, with exceptions and contradictions, all at the same time.

    Which one?

I agree with above, start 10 grains less with 3f. With pyrodex, try 5 grains less.

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Well if you forgot my address, just ask... I can remind you! ; ) In seriousness, I helped an old friend frame out his new cabinet shop. What does that have to do with muzzleloading? I'm going to have access to it and all it's industrial grade toys. Lathe work here I come! Plugs for powder horns...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Could just need cleaning, could be the spring (my idea on the 2 most likely issues). Both are easily fixed. Let the snow fall, get indoors, and start with a good cleaning. You'll have it functioning properly in no time.

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Not today buy rather Sunday and Monday: On Sunday I got a new fellow out on the range with his "new to him" .50 TC flintlock rifle. After load development and sighting, he put 4 rounds in a 5" circle target center (2 at 25yds and 2 at 50yds) while rested. We settled on 60gr 2F Goex, .01 patch...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

So me and the fusil are out for the last weekend of the season. Rain stopped, Temps soaring to 45 degrees...but I'm being accosted, harassed even, by bushy tails. On my stand! 3 feet above me in the tree! Staring me down from the side of the tree next to me! They don't know I can drop the ball...

New Traditions Deerhunter Flint showed up! Any advice?

Make sure you have a proper sized flint, about as wide as the frizzen. When the frizzen is down over the pan, with the hammer at half cock, the flint should not touch the frizzen but shouldn't be more than .25 inch away (usually around an 1/8 of an inch). It should be pointing at a spot on the...

    Nitrate Escapes Custody

You, Sir, are correct. From Britannica: "It is also used as a food preservative, and when added to meat it causes a reaction between the myoglobin and hemoglobin in the blood, making the meat appear red in colour." Odd, I'm finding info clearly describing its use, and the coloration you mention...
