    I've been in contact with another collector and we are trying to do more research to narrow the history of this musket. I got a new digital caliper and I now make the bore to be .605 Now there's the possibility it might be a guards musket modified to be a shotgun. I'll keep you posted

    From what I have researched the Pattern 1853 issued to British troops were rifled. However they made fully functional smoothbore models in country for the "native" troops. So that they were armed but no as well as the redcoat regulars just in case of rebellion.
