    Owl Feathers & Parfleche's

Andy52, my point was I made these owl feathers myself from white turkey feathers and died them. They’re not real. I guess I passed if you thought they were real. I was saying I couldn’t find good looking “fake” owl feathers so I decide to make my own

    Owl Feathers & Parfleche's

Thought I'd share some new crafts I've been working on for my Lodge and made a few Parfleche's. Also looking to make some nice feather drops a bit larger like for a Great Horned Owl. I haven't seen too many good painted imitations. So, I've been working on a few mixtures and getting close to...

    Hudson's Bay Camp Knives

After days of searching, I finally just read about the exact knife. Their discription and photos below . "It is a 1800's Hudson's Bay Co. fur trade knife, sometimes called a "roach belly" knife or "scalper". It is a little over 11 1/2" long with a 6 5/8" blade and has horn handles, which are...

    Hudson's Bay Camp Knives

Excellent. Even their own HBC website history does't talk much about knives except for their Camp knife. Nothing on Trade Silver, but there was a lot of various trade silver made. HB didn't want to have trade items but the competition with Northwest Fur trading was strong. So the "give-aways"...

    Hudson's Bay Camp Knives

Notchy Bob.... I greatly appreciated all the information you've given. It could be a difference in trade goods with indians versus non trade items. A good example would be the pipe-hawk More a pipe then hawk, but just for indian trade. A lot started with the Longhunters caring trade silver...

    Hudson's Bay Camp Knives

I know Hudson Bay put the HB and other trade marks on most of the Trade Silver items. I believe that's fact. On the knife I'd probably agree with you since I haven't seen on with just the Beaver tail and the HB mark, but I'm trying to see if there's a source to see where they placed it and...

    Hudson's Bay Camp Knives

I was wondering if there's a source to research the various trade items from hudson Bay and help with aging the item. I just picked up knife that a person was selling and said it had no marks, But I was holding it and looking right and the center of the blade and there was the HB Beaver...

    War Club with Black Pine

It was just by chance I use Black pine since it died. Never used that wood before. It's as solid oak or a hickory. I never knew that.

    War Club with Black Pine

It's just under 30" long and functional. Thought I'd hit my hawk target at home a few times and it held up great and knife edge had no change. I've seen some with three blades, not that's a bit crazy, but I can see they'll do damage in a hand to hand.

    War Club with Black Pine

I had a black pine die on my property. When I pulled it, the base of the truck had such a nice look to it. Black Pine is harder wood than I thought it would be. I'm just finishing this spike club. All hand carved. The handle is Elk rawhide with Grizzly fur on each side. The blade is a piece...

WANTED Ron Long Lock - Or parts

Well, I decided to take it on my own to fix sear. I squared up a small steal rod in the forge and then filed a bit. Then I brazed it on. I know most will tell me it won't last, but in brazing something this small, you have to make sure to use the flux, but also that the material flow...

WANTED Ron Long Lock - Or parts

That news hit me deep for some reason. As I was sitting here hold the lock in my hand trying, I saw your post. Interesting that it makes you feel more committed to fixing it. I've heard nothing but positive when it came to his locks. He may not have been a 18th or 19th century legend in the...

WANTED Ron Long Lock - Or parts

I'm trying to bring back to life an old Hawken perc rifle that has an old Ron Long LH lock. Unfortunately the sear needs to be replaced. If anyone has one or parts for one, I'd be interested in buying. Again, a left handed lock. TOW has a replacement, but it wasn't exactly same as Ron's...
