    I am wondering how many shots it takes to enlarge an insert? Im shooting 100 gr fff under a prb in 58 calibre. Will it be hundreds or thousands of shots? Im just curious as i read on this forum about changing a liner when its worn, & this is my first flintlock.

    Barrel key loose?

    My keys are captured so i wont lose them. I was just wondering if a loose one is a very serious problem. I will tighten it up a bit i guess.

    Im using a nice hawken style flintlock with two barrel keys. After a few shots i often see the rear barrel key has backed out slightly. Does this indicate a problem like the barrel moving in the stock, or is it nothing to worry about.

    Powder grain size in early 1800's

    Im curious if anyone knows what grades of powder were available to the trappers of the time, & if they had a choice of 2f, 3f, & so on. I think they would only ship one grade to be used in everything, but im only guessing.

    It works for me, & an unintended benifit is that i dont notice movement of the lock or the flash any more so i dont flinch so much.
