WANTED .36 cal Manhattan barrel wedge wanted

I recently purchased and fired for the first time a Manhattan .36 cal revolver. The revolver is in great shape but the barrel wedge (has serial # on it) tends to work loose on firing. I would hate to lose it.I tried a replica copy from DGW and it's not compatible. However sports (lodgewood.com)...

How Big ya need …to feel Safe?

Grizzly hunting in Alberta was suspended some years ago, too many over gunned hunters were getting killed after they took a stand your ground attitude.

    Shortening a barrel

Too many years ago to remember I bought my first BP rifle. A charming full stocked Pennsylvania of 45 caliber. After the trials and learning on my own (no local BP shooters or internet) to shoot the rifle true and tight the barrel seemed to wear out in the upper 18 inches of the bore. The...

    Black powder shortage

Purchased my first pound of Pyrodex and it says on the label....use 5 grains of black powder to ignite charge in flintlocks. So 5 for the booster in the bore and 2 in the pan means that last pound of of Black will last 1000 shots or about a couple months of shooting. Lets see how well that puts...

    Black powder shortage

Right. This last pound is the last of my three year stock that I bought planning to replace as I go. Well said. If any group can survive indeed thrive during these shortages and cutbacks it's this one. Think back on the early frontiersmen and women who pioneered our great lands. They...

    Black powder shortage

Thanks for the replies and suggestions. I'm going to try loading 10 gr. of black down the bore and top with Pyrodex and black in the pan. I'll report back here how that works for ignition, accuracy and reliability as suspecting there may be many more out there like me soon.

    Black powder shortage

Well it's finally happened, there is no black powder available in all of Canada and I'm down to my last pound of FFFG. Now I have heard and read you can't use Pyrodex in a flinter. But I have not read where anyone has actually tried Pyrodex in the bore and used Black powder in the pan to ignite...

    Source for Vent Plug Feathers

Since I'm also a fly tying fisherman there is an abundance of feathers that suit the bill. Right now I'm using some red dyed turkey quills as they are both durable and highly visible.

    who shoots 54 Cal with 3F ?

I've always liked to keep things simple so use 3F for all my rifles from .45 to .54. Not that I don't like to vary the ball size, patch materials and load size it just makes the working up loads more fun. Just never heard a good argument to change to 2F or seen any one shooting better with it...

More About Sperm Oil Than You Could Ever Want To Know

I used sperm whale oil for many years, it was a highly versatile and effective lubricant I Can't say the smell was ever a issue, but then again if the scent of smoked tanned buckskins and sulfurous black powder is offensive to you your in the wrong sport.

Took the Lanc to the range today.

Every rifle is different, but my three 54's all shot the most consistently with loads in the 60 -70 range with 3F powder.

What group size makes you happy?

This is my personal confidence builder and gong show when at the range. 4 inch steel at 100 yards. The first shot of the day, to prove to myself I don't need a fouling shot. And final shot of the day to remind me from that point on it's up to me to shoot as good as the rifle. Ok, maybe a few...

What group size makes you happy?

Absolutely, Accuracy from the bench builds confidence for the field. When you take to the woods you know your rifle will hit where you want when you want. and what ever range.

    Swaged balls?

I went thru this some years ago and found little difference between my own casts balls (.530 an .495) and swaged balls form Hornady. I didn't feel the weight difference amounts made a significant difference to accuracy and liked the convenience of buying over casting for plinking or hunting.

What group size makes you happy?

My favorite rifle is a Bedford County Pennsylvania Rifle. .54 Colerain barrel. Load 70 grains of FFFG with .530 ball. I don't usually take pic's of groups but this 75 yard bench shot group proved (once again) the rifle usually out shoots the shooter. Shot on a perfect day Sept. last year.

What group size makes you happy?

Nice. Cut my BP teeth on my Dixie TM rifle. On the rack or at the range it's one fine looking rifle.
