    Southern California

I shoot regularly at Rainbow, a small private range just outside of Temecula. About 15 minutes south of Temecula is the Pala range, up to approximately 900 yards. Here's a link: http://range.palatribe.com/ Best regards,

    Short Arbor

I'd just drill and tap the end of the arbor, screw in a short round head machine screw and file to the correct length. Best regards,

Suggestions for ball and patch size

Thanks Zonie, You may be right, I seem to remember that a few of the pre-cut patches kind of pulled apart in my hands as I was loading. How far do the patches typically travel? I looked a couple of times for my fired patches but didn't find any. Best regards,

Suggestions for ball and patch size

I want to thank everyone for their help and suggestions. I was out at the range again Sunday and the results were greatly improved! First time out I was shooting 70 grs. of ff with a .490 rb and a pre-lubed / pre-cut Thompson patch, and my group sizes were 7-8 inches at 50 yards. Sunday the...

Suggestions for ball and patch size

"I've tried .495s with thin patches in my .50, and I definitely have gone back to .490s with cut-at-the-muzzle pillow ticking. I mostly use Blue Thunder as a patch lube, but a mixture of Ballistol to water can be done too. Some guns like a greasy patch, others a very lightly damp patch, others...

Lyman GPR screw size help needed

Thanks all, The bolt I was looking for the size of was #11a in the parts diagram Boomerang posted. I determined that it's a M5 size, and I was able to pick one up at my local hardware store. Just had to cut it to length and trim the head diameter down a bit to fit flush in the tang. Best...

Thanks everyone for the information and advice. It probably won't be until next weekend before I can get my supplies and get out to the range, but I'll post how it goes. Best regards,

Suggestions for ball and patch size

I just picked up a NOS T/C .50 Cal Hawken. I've shot percussion revolvers since I was a kid, but I'm new to muzzle loading rifles. I was thinking .490 round ball and .015 wonder lube patches to start. Does this sound reasonable or are there better suggestions. Best regards,
