How Long Do You Expect A Frizzen To Last ?

Just curious.... does anyone know someone who will rework a frizzen for those of us who don't have a forge (or blacksmith skills)?

    Don't know what I have!!

In the photos, it looks like the wood has not been finished but the shaping appears done. (Some rasp and rough sandpaper marks.). Know anyone with woodworking experience? They could tell you.

Powder Weight vs volume? New to purcussion.

If you are trying to shoot for extreme accuracy FOR A GIVEN POWDER, measure out by volume 20 loads and weigh each one. Take the average weight and from then on weigh your loads to that number for that powder. IMO weight is more accurate for a given powder but is prone to a potentially...

    Flint leather or lead

I've used both. Prefer leather. I think of it as a spring lock washer. The leather seems to have more flex holding the flint. It "springs back". Lead does not. So I find it lets the flint move after a few uses. Seems to take less torque on the jaws to hold the flint. Had not heard of...

    Barrel key loose?

Don't know if this would work, but perhaps you could file a shallow groove in the bottom of the key where it sits against the barrel lug. Use inletting black or engraving clay on the key, install and remove it, Where the marking stops is the lug position and the spot for the groove. A series...

    Buckhorn Sights?

Since Smokey Plainsman seems to have his answer, mind if I ask a variation on his question? What would have been the most common sight on a late period (say circa 1800) long rifle flintlock? Thanks

How fast does a 50 cal PRB need to be for deer?

I used to hunt cow elk with a friend in Colorado. Between the two of us we killed 4 elk in 5 years with .490 PRBs on 100 grains of 2F. Three dropped in their tracks, one ran about 50 yards. We never shot at anything more than 100 yards away. The one in the photo was hit at about 70 yards and...

To Polish the Brass Furniture or Not?

Ok, so some like shiny, some like patina. For those who like a nice patina, how do YOU get a patina on your brass in less that 10 years? I've tried waiting and it looks kinda raggedy more than aged. (Of course I'm aged and the wife says I look pretty raggedy too.) Thanks
