FOR SALE 45 cal. Lehigh Rifle

This is a folksy little early Lehigh Co. rifle with influence from H. Rupp & J. Moll and me. Built from a blank of curly maple using a Rice .45 cal. x 41" B wt. barrel with round bottom rifling. It uses a Larry Zorn / Albrecht flintlock that is very strong and FAST, activated by a light pull...

    I've returned

Howdy, I hail from south central Michigan and I've wandered back into camp to see what's happening. Been gone from this forum a few years, but I have been busy building flintlocks, mostly from blanks but some kits, since retiring from work 5 1/2 years ago. I figure it can't hurt to expose my...

Am I the only one in the Great Lakes Region?

I am 12 miles SW of Lansing MI. I build & hunt with my own flintlocks on my own land mostly..."and a river (the Thornapple) runs through it".

    pictures of your Jaeger rifle

Gizamo, Sorry, I failed to mention it is a real nice looking rifle! Certainly nothing wrong with it from what I can see. Oh.....maybe I would round over the heads on the lock screws, using a file and a drillpress.

    pictures of your Jaeger rifle

I was told it is technically not a Jaegar by some well known builders. They concluded it was not of that design, carvings were mentioned and its archetecture. I guess I would agree with them. It looks like an early transitional rifle, made/restocked in America with our curly maple, and...

Here is a referance: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/German_military_rifles We are talking about the early to late 18th century rifles here.

I just showed you two. The definition hasn't changed in 260 years, much less the last 25. :stir:

    pictures of your Jaeger rifle

Here's another I built for a friend of mine in the early 90s. Has a Getz swamped .62 brrl. He has put a LOT of wear on it!

Here's mine....a total hunting machine! .62 caliber straight oct. Getz custom barrel with an outstanding Davis Jaeger lock and set trigers! I built it from a plank of black walnut back in '85.

    Double barrel flintlock?

These were all new separate tubes breeched w/oversize blocks that needed to be shaped down to a hook. Same goes for the standing breech being way oversize and weeks and weeks of filing to fit, since I am not a machinist. A lot of filing on the brrls. too :cursing: I think I read that Rayle...

    Double barrel flintlock?

Hmmmm, I don't have pics of it apart, but I should. Get Bill Brockway's excellent book on how to build these critters. It is well worth the money. This was built "by the book" as they say. Each brrl. has a hook on the breech plug. The L&R baby Manton locks are held with one bolt as seen in front...

    barrel steel again

GBG, that's the same size as my Getz Jaeger barrel, 31" straight octagonal. I won't suggest what the max safe load would be. I shoot 65-70 grs. Goex 2f powder for targets and 90grs. for deerhunting. After dropping a 450# blackbear w/90grs....I don't see the need to go higher! Oh, I have...

    Double barrel flintlock?

I don't notice the flash, but I've been shooting flintlock f o r e v e r ! Most awsome adventure is firing both sides at or near the same time! WOW  The guy I built this flint SxS for was a collector more than a shooter. I built 4 custom guns for him and ended up finding new owners...

    Double barrel flintlock?

Good luck getting one on the cheap. Better yet...don't even try. I built one in 20 ga. quite a few years ago for a friend and after he died I was able to buy it back from his next of kin. I wouldn't let it go. It was quite plain, but I wouldn't sell it or build another like it for less than...

    barrel steel again

Jerry, to you second question. Yes! But not under normal conditions. Last October, a gentleman in our club, shooting a Getz barreled rifle I built for him about 3 yrs prior did it! We figure by the damage, he loaded his normal load, got distracted and went back and short started another ball...

    Getz Barrel Co.?

I know, I've dealt with John for many years and built at least 25 custom rifles with his barrels. I just wanted to make sure nothing had happened to him! I am waiting on a Transitional-C wt. 50 cal x 38" that was promised 8 months ago....to replace one that was "totalled".

    Getz Barrel Co.?

I won't be able to make Dixon's or the CLA, so I'll just keep calling til I get some satisfaction.

    Getz Barrel Co.?

Does anyone know if Getz is still making barrels? They don't answer phone or emails and didn't show up at Friendship.
