Soldering brass patchbox lid 'bracket' to brass coin

Good evening all. I decided to gift a rifle I had bought probably 7 years ago to my father in law. He is from Illinois and I found a commemorative coin I would like to try to convert to a patchbox lid. The gun is a Traditions hawken. I can give dimensions if needed, but I'm wondering how...

    I messed up a barrel.

Finished my Crockett last year. Shot it once. Took it out today because I'm bored and actually working on an old Hawken kit.. When I *finished* the barrel w/ lmf it wasnt smooth, and didn't look at all like a blueing as far as texture, which I now know it should. What I got from the process is...

I did it. Crockett is finished!

Wow.. so many mistakes, so many road bumps.. feels good thoughI've shot it 3x, didn't think I needed a patch worm for my first outing(rookie mistake). It(I) shot as good as I probably could. First loaded cap did not ignite charge, put another cap on(#10) and it went off w/delay about a whole...

    Update on the Crockett

For those following my finish/browning threads, I've almost finished both tasks am posting both updates here. The permalyn didnt turn out how I expected(process wise). I finished 3 coats(after the sealer) and planned on steel wooling and doing the final "finishing" coat with the sealer as per...

Red Alert! Red Alert! Stock stain comments..

Well, like the title says, I stained my Crockett stock w/lmf Maple stain and it is RED! I tested it in the bbl channel and wasnt crazy about it, but said wth I'll just do it.. Is this normal or, like at all an actual "style" of ml stocks? Or will my gun come out looking like it belongs to Bozo...

    Help, I'm browning!

Just wiped my second coat of LMF browning solution on. I just had some quick questions/observations while I wait for the 3rd. 1st- I did multiple wipes (top-bottom, 1 direction, not rubbing). I did this BEFORE reading about the copper issue if you rub it on multiple "coats" at once. Didnt...

"Cure" time for LMF finishing kit

I plan on getting the barrel/wood finishing kit from LMF. I'm just wondering if there is any time needed to let finish (oil blend maybe? Not sure..) cure on the wood, or if I can take it out the next day or so and shoot it.

    Punching sights

The sights on my .32 crockett are super loose(slide out just by tilting the barrel), I've been given the advice of "peening" the sight base with a brass drift/punch. I have a general idea of how to go about this, but does anyone have any sage advice? Do's/don'ts, size of punch, depth of dimples...

    .32 Traditions Crockett kit

Started this "build", having some issues. Biggest one being with lock. The "hole" on the hammer goes over the nipple, but just barely, sometimes scraping the forward edge of the hammer before barely sitting just inside the hole. Should I worry much about this? If the rifle will function without...

    .32 Traditions Crockett kit

After much deliberation, and reading, I've "pulled the trigger" and ordered one of these kits! I cant wait to get it. I do have a question about the supplied sights. It states ".350 blues steel, bead style". So, what exactly is that? Is .350 thick, thin, or in the middle as far as fine'ness of...

    Sight Radius

I know barrel length and sight radius has been beaten into the ground here, but in all the past posts I've read I couldn't find one that used distance of target as a variable.. So I'm thinking of switching from a 39" Pedersoli frontier (in. 32c) to a scout or Kentucky, which is 28 3/4", and 36"...

    .32 Frontier

Hi. Can anyone give input on a Dixie Gun Works built rifle? I saw the same model on an auction site for -$100 what DGW lists, but with just a stock photo(like DGW). Out of hand I think I would trust DGW a little more.. Thoughts or experiences? Thanks.-- rifle in question is a Pedersoli Frontier...

    Traditions Hawken replacement barrel

I have a Traditions Hawken(.50?) Kit that is unfinished/not assembled. Does anyone know of a .32 or .36 barrel I can drop in it? I found a couple threads in my search asking this question, with no definitive answer. Pecatonica(sp?) has Hawken stocks they inlet, and incidentally, also sell...
