    Maintaining stock with carving ?

Poly doesn't soak into wood but is just a plastic topcoat. I find it also changes the feel of wood, being plastic, and it's waterproofing ability is questionable. Have you ever tried Danish oil? It seals well, is easy to apply, and dries fast. I use it, then top with Ren wax.

SOLD - Pending funds Pietta Remington 1858 NMA

Write it on a slip of paper with the current date, take a pic of the item with the paper included. Too many people online post fake ads with someone else's photo, this is just a step the site mods put in place to help eliminate them.

Where/how can I get a cheap powder horn? I can DIY most of it, I’m not picky.

Go to powderhornsandmore.com, the horn you order is the horn you get.

    The Feldflasche Canteen from GGGodwin

Yeah, I had to chase after them for an order. They need to advise people when things aren't in stock. To take money for goods advertised but not available is false advertising and possibly fraud. I got everything I ordered, but I will never use them again.

Does anybody recognize this stock marking?

This is under the buttplate of a modern flintlock trade gun. The barrel is marked Made in Belgium but has British proof marks, so I don't know where the stock was made. Anyone have an idea?

    Maintaining stock with carving ?

A soft towel with a thick nap is the best for buffing wax. A very soft brush may help in crevices.

    Question About Lighting

I saw a pic of an autobody shop with 12 or 16 overhead fixtures, in a grid pattern, all on independent switches. The light can be directed from any angle to highlight details as needed. You definitely have the right approach.

Why no black powder hunting personalities

TV shows are about advertising. Hunting and fishing shows are about sponsors pushing the latest gear. What gear would a black powder themed show support?

Anyone ever seen or used this Patch Lube?

It could simply be beeswax and Crisco in something like a 60-40 blend.

    What would you build?

There's something appealing about the half stock rifles of the 1820-40 era. They generally had longer barrels than later "mountain" guns, with 33" being in the range of minimum length. I really like the overall lines.

    Hello from the Hudson Valley

My parents were from Maine, summer vacations were always visiting family. We kept saying "some day..." until the opportunity became real. Took me 54 years, but I made it!

What exactly are you cutting down? The barrel? Why not just get a Hawken style gun?

I couldn't find a forum that matched this perfectly but this is close enough.

This forum covers many jurisdictions with many laws, and many lawyers. The rule is there to limit liability. Don't like it, you don't have to be here.
