    BEWARE! I got ripped off

I also found those folk when looking for primers. As soon as I saw the minimum order and Zelle it started to look like a scam to me. Send my money through a wire transfer, no thanks. Did a little investigation and sure enough it is a scam. The old adage of "If it seems too good to be true it...

    RWS 1075 Percussion Caps

Where is local? Also, perhaps you could change the nipple? I believe you can get a nipple that will fit my rifle to handle a musket cap?

Javelina with a flintlock southern rifle…

Great info I'll tuck that away for the future. We're headed to TX in April for pig, but would really like to take a run at Javalina in AZ, it's closer. I'm taking my Hawken .50 as well as an unmentionable, no limit on the pigs.

    Bore Polishing

Mike did the same thing with his kit built Lyman Hawken minus the burnishing. It worked for him with that rifle as well.

Excessive Fouling in my Cabela's .50 Hawken 1:48 twist

That is I started with .490 ball and eventually worked up to a .018 patch using mink oil, same result. So polishing the bore some more may be the issue or change the patch lube.

Excessive Fouling in my Cabela's .50 Hawken 1:48 twist

Yes, I stated with a .490 ball and used a .018 patch same lube same result.

Excessive Fouling in my Cabela's .50 Hawken 1:48 twist

Yep I watched that over a year ago, it’s really interesting. I did lapp the barrel with Scotchbrite and it did make a bit of a difference. I’ll probably do it again.

Excessive Fouling in my Cabela's .50 Hawken 1:48 twist

Yep sure have. I was using a .018 patch with the .490 ball, but switched to a .495 ball when you couldn’t find .490 last year.

Excessive Fouling in my Cabela's .50 Hawken 1:48 twist

I was looking back at my notes, I’ve used a lot of different patch sizes and different lubs. There’s one I haven’t tried but will and it’s a semi-dry patch. I have a suspicion that mink oil may be an issue but I can’t figure out why?
