How many of you dry your revolver in the oven?

Well sheek howdy! Then let me repost my 1865 Springfield I was told we don't talk about here and have a discussion or two. And if men back in the day did just view their firearms as nothing more then a "hammer" then why was Hugh Glass so bent on getting his rifle back; I mean like, wouldn't the...

How many of you dry your revolver in the oven?

Oh heck, I thought this was the Muzzleloader forum and we think in Early 1800 and back. Now we're talking 'late 1800' and Cowboy, cattle hands  But I still bet a fur trapper in the hills didn't think "The company" will just issue me another gun and horse before them charging Indians reach...

How many of you dry your revolver in the oven?

I stand corrected! No, I have not seen any 100 to 200 year old original firearms in pristine condition; just hunks od steel and wood that have hammered many a steaks and shoes many a horse :horseback:

How many of you dry your revolver in the oven?

So what you are saying is that men back 'then' are like some people today and use their firearms as a hammer? Sorry but I must disagree; seldom is a hammer used to defend your life against attacking Indians, Red Coats, highway men....and seldom was a hammer ever relied upon to put meat on the...

How many of you dry your revolver in the oven?

How did they clean firearms before the invention of ovens and dishwashers? My oh my, they must have just let them rot out and go buy another one! All these new fangled do-dads...in my opinion are more hassle then they are worth; that and have dumbed down society and made people lazy. I will...

    New Member from Nevada

Howdy and Welcome! Our last meeting (Eagle Valley Muzzleloaders) they said Lakes Crossing has lost their range? I heard ya'll might start hooking up with us for monthly shoots...one the Raid clears so we can get back up there. Perhaps we will meet next month.

    Cleaning jag getting stuck

The 'reason' is posted in his description: .495 ball with 10 patch (I presume ".10" patch..but even if he meant to say .01 patch) The ball + patch should = barrel caliber Otherwise you will have a lot of pounding to drive it in. Then; a 50cal jag would not be considered "too big" however...

    Cleaning jag getting stuck

Let's back up a moment. Look at 86Dragon's post above! I shoot 50cal too. You ball and patch are too big; for a beginner, some hard core shooter may tell you otherwise - don't listen to them. Start with a .49 ball and a .01 patch. Or make it easier and go .485 ball and a thicker patch. Now...

Went back to water - cleaning woes and foes

So much over thinking, so much over prepping. I too used to make a chore out of cleaning, I too hated getting water on my stock, under the barrel, into to trigger assembly; tried all the 'hoses' and pumping water up and down with a tight patch (even did a hillbilly comedy skit about it). Got so...

    Cleetus...a "Flint-cussion" gun?

I really like his Range Rod SLING! I might have to start drinking beer again! As I don't have any 'benches' where I shoot, I'm going to go check my leather strap supply!

Have you ever tried SPG Bear Grease?

The lady I get mine from says this is very true (says it's also good for cookies) BUT not if it's from a 'Trash Bear'; one who eats from garbage cans. She says the trash Bears are not good eating at all, but still makes good shooting lube and she tosses the 'crackling' to the birds as they still...

    Thoughts on Percussion Caps

Scheels had both CCI #10 &#11 last year for $9.99 per but have been ever since....I did not buy all they had but glad I hoarded what I could afford!

    Homemade cleaning Patches

T-shits are good for stabbing at the range but for cleaning I use cotton Flannel and tow. I just this us while watching "Tall tales of Jim Bridger" (under 30 min counting a smoke break) I cut them into three sizes: large bore (72cal), medium (44, 45cal) and tiny ones (we don't mention here else...

    My blunderbuss options

Not unusual; all makes and models I have ever seen that come Flint or Percussion, the Percussion is always $100 or so cheaper.

    My blunderbuss options

Well I don't know about others here but I have had mine for quite some time now and still Love shooting her. I once shot a 2" post at about 30 yards with .72cal rb...probably just dumb luck but that what I was aiming at. Pumpkins at 30 yards no problem. I haven't tried to work up a shot load...

Have you ever tried SPG Bear Grease?

Well, I have to disagree that pure bear oil is a terrible patch lube; I used it pure for a year and it worked GREAT,it was just 'terrible' to handle in the field but the pre-lubed was Great and did not change consistency sitting in my tin for over a month. It was just the trouble of handling a...

Have you ever tried SPG Bear Grease?

The 'oil' is what makes it slick, 'Lube', the wax is just to make it not runny. No reason to add more wax to TOW's Mink Oil as it already has wax (of some type) in it and that is what makes it set up and harden over time or in cold weather, and as reported earlier in this thread "turn sticky"...

Have you ever tried SPG Bear Grease?

I have seen the quantity of Bear Oil that the Canadian place makes; gallons and gallons of it, and the one US maker renders Gallins of it so I suppose there is plenty of true Bear oil to go around (also all the Indian products and medicines) - but I have never seen the production for Mink...

Adapter from 10-32 to 8-32 ramrod

Personally I have not found anywhere to make 'that' combo purchase. The places I get powder from dont settle a good selection of accessories and the places I get accessories from dont sell powder or have decent prices; Example - I get a lot of my supplies (jags, adaptors, flints, oils, etc) from...

Adapter from 10-32 to 8-32 ramrod

Never order just one item, it does not pay to, like buying just one pound of powder. Get you adaptor, maybe a spare jag or one you dont have yet, get a bag of flint, maybe 100 round ball, maybe you need a patch knife, or some fire supplies. It may bump your cart up to $50, $70 or more but then...
