Cabela's Investarms .54 Caliber Wear Questions

Yep the wedge is pretty soft metal. Put a slight bend in it. You can put it in a vice and tap it with a hammer a little bit. Doesn’t take much.

    Using a smaller Minie ball.

Powder coating isn’t a good option. I use powder coated bullets loading. 45-70 and 45 colts. BUT that is with smokeless powder. When loading BP loads in those cartridges I have to use uncoated bullets with lube. Same bullets that have good lube groves but the powder coating fills the lube groves...

    1f for 12ga

I can’t answer your question regarding 1f but I have numerous 45, 50, 54 and 58 cal rifles. In the 54 and 58s I’ve always gotten better accuracy with 2f compared to 3f. In the smaller calibers I’ve never even tried 2f because they shoot very well with 3f. In my smooth bores I’ve mostly used 2f...

    CCI #11 in stock

I bought some from bass pro a few months ago when they had them in stock at this price. Yeah it’s way more than Walmarts in store prices of 4.99 per tin if and when they have them in stock. I watched every online retailer every day until someone had them in stock. I hit the order button and now...

    Easter morning turkey hunting.

This was out at my sitting spot here at my place yesterday morning. My place is surrounded by national forest. I was on the porch the last two mornings but haven’t heard them gobbling yet.

    Easter morning turkey hunting.

Thought I’d check my Bess carbine this morning for my 25 yard turkey pattern since spring season starts next week. Good enough for me. 25 yards is the farthest I’d shoot.

    WITHDRAWN Pedersoli Brown Bess…

Is it chrome plated? Never seen a Pedersoli finished like that. Has a Pedersoli Grice marked lock or one that looks like a Pedersoli lock. It has the shine of an Indian made Bess. If it’s a Pedersoli it WILL be stamped Pedersoli.

    CVA Hawkens Hunter

Pretty much the only stain that will work well is alcohol based. Water and oil based do not do well on beech. I used feibrings leather shoe dye. It is alcohol based.

I just refinished a cva gun just like that. You can make them way nicer than they came from the factory.

    Birmingham Arms rifle

Birmingham small arms was an actual maker of these rifles at one time. Google them. They did make these during the civil war but I’m guessing this is a reproduction. A rifle can be made, defarbed and General Motors markings can be put on them. Doesn’t mean General Motors actually made it...

    Birmingham Arms rifle

I saw that rifle on gunbroker also. It is absolutley not an original. Actually I’m not sure who made it. I’m thinking it’s an Italian gun that’s had a major Defarb done to it. I know the listing says it’s not Italian but most sellers of something like this on gunbroker have zero idea what they...

    Skychief question

If I’m turkey hunting I use a wad of tow over powder and then a plastic slit shotcup full of shot and cards on top. That shot cup is a game changer for turkey patterns. For other small game I don’t use the cups. The tow is a great buffer to keep that cup from melting. It also works great for...

    Skychief question

Absolutely! I just carry thin shot cards. Two over powder and two over shot. Sometimes I’ll use a wad of TOW instead. Tow is faster for reloading while hunting. Adjust powder and shot until you get the best pattern. It’s the old KISS principle. Everything else is overthinking in my opinion and...

Do's and Don'ts when buying first BP shotgun

The one I use is a beat up original Belgian double from the 1880s. It’s a 16 gauge and kills everything I shoot at with it. I bought it years ago on gunbroker for like $100, cleaned it up and it’s been as reliable as a new one. Just keep looking and something will come up for sale.

Do's and Don'ts when buying first BP shotgun

If you’re buying new then you’re pretty much stuck with buying a Pedersoli. To my knowledge they are the only company that currently makes doubles. Taylor’s or anyone else selling new doubles may advertise them with their name “taylors” or whoever but they are still Pedersolis. There are some...

    Parker Hale Whitworth breech/ignition issues

I’m guilty of over oiling my guns for storage. Prior to shooting I fold up a cleaning patch and put it on the nipple and ease the hammer down on it. I use carb cleaner or brake cleaner to wash out any oils. Spray it down the barrel, swish it around and dump it out. I do that a few times then set...
