Patent Breech Investarms Hawken failures to fire

I would suggest shooting off about 3 to five caps before loading your gun. It will dry up any oils or moisture in the flash hole and flash channel. Prior to shooting off the caps I would run a dry patch or 2 down the barrel to remove any oil or moisture in the barrel.

Patent Breech Investarms Hawken failures to fire

I have an Investarms .50 cal. Hawken. I use a Tres Ampco #11 nipple which is only a .028 flash hole. I use Remington caps, CCI caps and RWS caps. I have never had a problem with hang fires or misfires. I use 2F Swiss black powder. I have a buddy who shoots a TC New Englander. He is constantly...

Fiber optic front bead and rear blank for a Lyman GPR

I have one installed on one of my sidelocks. It works great at the range in good lighting. However, they may be difficult to use in certain low light hunting situations. I know this from personal experience. Hence the reason I use a small, green fiber optic front sight for hunting along with my...

Fiber optic front bead and rear blank for a Lyman GPR

I put one of these Ranger Point sights on one of my TC Renegades with excellent results. Fits great in the 3/8'' dove tail notch. It is a smaller fiber optic. Only .040 in size. I got mine in green. Much easier to pick out in low light situations. Easier and much better to use for hunting than...

What are your favorite Thompson Center (T/C) Percussion guns?

I really dig my .50 caliber Renegades. I have four of them. Two have Green Mountain barrels with 1-28” twist. The other two are factory 1-48” twist. I also have a .50 cal White Mountain Carbine with a 1-20” twist that I am refurbishing.

So I went to an auction...

Good Grab! The Hawken Green Mountain LRH barrel should like the Bullshop 460 NEX conical pushed by 85 grains of Swiss 2F with a wool wad. I have two of them. They are great shooters. I shoot mine out to 200 yds with the Lyman SML peep sight.

The Search for a Vintage Cornbread

    MAG-SPARK™

There is a sidelock shooter on Modern Muzzleloader who uses The Mag Spark. He has a technique to keep the 209 primers from sticking after they are fired. He rolls the primer around in his mouth before inserting it. He also spits inside the cap before screwing it on. He and others have said it...

    Pyrodex?

I find Pyrodex to be just as messy as regular black powder. However, I find once it is fired, Pyrodex starts it's corrosion process much quicker than regular black powder. For me, nothing beats Swiss BP.

    Maryland’s Primitive Season

You might be thinking of someone else. I wish I did have my “own lovely builds”. I have three .50 cal Renegades. Two of them have after market Green Mountain LRH barrels and one is all stock. The two with LRH barrels also have 57SML adjustable peep sights. I also have an Investarms .50 cal...

    Maryland’s Primitive Season

Got in a ground blind up on the powerline an hour before sunrise. About 9:15 two deer popped out of the woods directly across from me on the other side of the powerline at just around 60 yds. I raised my sidelock to get a bead on one of them. Before I could pull the trigger, they bolted across...

    Maryland’s Primitive Season

Had some success this past Saturday in Maryland’s primitive season. Put this guy down with my 50 cal Renegade. 460 grain Bullshop NEX conical over a 54 cal dry wool wad pushed by 85 grains of 2F Swiss.

    TC Tang Sight

I use the green 3/8 dove sight from Rangerpoint. The fiber optic is a little smaller at .04”. See link below https://rangerpointstore.com/news/ranger-point-precision-announces-new-fiber-optic-rifle-sights/

    TC Tang Sight

Before filing down the sight or cutting away any wood, try shimming the sight first. I made my shims out of aluminum for my Renegades. I cut them from a solid aluminum block. I made them the entire length of the peep sight. The shim on one of my Renegades is a lot thicker than the shim on my...

    Hawken Worth

Absolutely beautiful rifle!!! You definitely have a talent. Only an idiotic A Hole would be insulted by your post.

    Simple question…..

necchi, you are poison to this site. Either you are putting on an act, or you are the biggest A Hole that ever entered this forum. Obviously, you don't like people. So maybe you shouldn't correspond with them.

    Elk hunting max range.

I took a bull elk at 208 yards this past September in Colorado. I used a .50 cal Renegade with a 1-28'' twist Green Mountain Barrel, 460 grain Bullshop conical on top of a wool wad pushed by 85 weighed grains of Swiss 2F powder.
