It’s amazing what new info we are constantly learning about history.

Checkout this video. I had no idea that George Washington was named after Washington DC.

    SOLD .44 Kentucky flint pistol

Pending funds. You won’t see many like this one, it’s exceptional and in outstanding condition. I don’t shoot it, so it needs to move along. Not cheap, but find another like this one… $1200 shipped.

    .36 rifle accuracy at distance

At what distance does the wind start to have its way with a .36 round ball? 50? 75? Reasonable wind, not hurricane force winds. Think minute of coyote or Turkey. I have two .40’s that I am very confident with to 100 in a fairly stiff crosswind. Thinking I may want a SMR in .36 at some point...

    SMRs and long barrels

Simple question…in a time 1820/30s when barrel lengths were generally getting shorter in pretty much every style of rifle… Why were SMR/Tennessee rifles made with such long barrels? Powder quality should not have been an issue by that time. Smaller calibers certainly didn’t need 42 inch...

    Has anyone else noticed…

Just how many new threads there are from first time flintlock shooters? I wonder why that is? It’s almost like the sport is growing, or something. Thank you Mr Kibler. (And no, I don’t own one of his guns.)

    A complaint about Tallpine’s blades

Our forum member here, Tallpine, (Dan, once you meet him) makes and sells a lot of blades here on this forum. Hawks too. @tallpine I have five of his blades, and one hawk. Pictured below is the patch knife he made when a friend contacted him to buy me a present. Looks like a nice knife...

    Skirmishers…need your advice

Picked up a reproduction Cook carbine. Fired the Burton ball, Williams bullet and .550 Pritchett. All shot very, very accurately at 40 yards from a rest. With 60 grains of 3F the Williams was about 6” low, pretty much the same for the Burton with 50 grains of 3F. The Pritchett with 60 grns...

Help with a date range for this pistol

I’m a handgun junkie…I love pistols. Below is one of my favorites. I need some help from the experts on where in the historical timeline this one would fall. I’m thinking post Revolution up to 1800. But it also seems to fit in the 1820 time frame also. Opinions are welcome.

    Wall mounted rifle display

Had some free time yesterday afternoon…well, honestly, I was just sick of putting up with the people I work with… Being self employed means it’s a quick conversation when I tell the boss to pi$$ off! It’s been a challenging year health wise for me and I am really focusing on the things that...

    Looking for a wood worker…

    WITHDRAWN .44 CVA project pistol

Bought this several years ago planning to perfect my (nonexistent) stock making skills by slimming it down and relief carving it. Not sure what I was drinking that day, but I’m back on the wagon now! I’m tired of it hanging on a peg in my shop taunting me, so it needs to move along to another...

    SOLD ASM brass .44 Navy

I know, when I typed that thread title I had to stop and read it twice…we all know the Italians take a lot of liberties with these guns, still seems odd. Anyway, great gun if you want a shooter. Picked it up several years as a throw in on a trade. The cylinder pin had come loose so the whole...

    Anyone make wingbone calls?

I was given one years ago and used it to good effect more than once. But it’s been put into a very safe place apparently… Anyone have some to sell? Or instructions on making one?

    Frizzen advice needed

A friend brought me this lock yesterday and the face of the frizzen is pretty abused. Pics below. I know there are professional services to reface/reharden etc, but what can be done in the meantime? 400 grit sandpaper to smooth out the finish? A courser grit first? The flint seems a bit...

Earliest documented horn on bag strap?

Like the title says. How long has this been done? To my uneducated mind it seems to be a very late thing…like 1820’s and later. Git some learnin in me, please!

A bag question for the PC stitch counters

I have a bag I really enjoy using. See pics below. It’s a Virginia style bag, but has a small hatchet attached to the back which is perfect for use cleaning a deer or breaking up small kindling. Problem is I just can’t figure what time period to place this in…. I have rifles that are very early...
