Question on where & which to buy.

Say Bang, on the .36 colt, is the 1851 the only open top that comes in .36? I'll check out the internet to find out more about the dragoon, but if the grip is far larger than the Remington it may be too large for my mitts.

Question on where & which to buy.

THANKS GENTLEMEN! Just ordered a Pietta 1858 Target Model from Cabela's (they didn't have one in stock) for $319 no shipping, and will pick up the 1851 by Uberti or Pietta in .36 steel next month. Don't know why I'm so anxious to get back into shooting at this time, it's too cold here for the...

Question on where & which to buy.

I've a tendency to be a bit manic so take that into consideration. WHERE: Just read and article which stated the 'box store' eg. Cabela's & such were more apt to have less quality control (ill fitting grips etc.) than the folks like EMF, Dixie and Cutlers having better. Any truth there? I've a...

Wanting percussion CVA single shot ideas and pics

Now that's a beautiful example of American ingenuity! This is giving me renewed interest in working again with my hands. Thanks for the post. Is the balance is as good as it appears?

    Any substute for lead?

Sorry Zonie, I was thinking Cap & Ball revolver when the question was posed, but bringing an in-line muzzleloader to this hog hunt also may be in the cards.

    Any substute for lead?

Checked out the copper alternative. Nope. Much too complicated a procedure for me, heck, I've yet to figure out the options on an ol school flip phone.

    Any substute for lead?

ALRIGHT! Beautifully put. As an American Lit major, I applaud the understated humor. Thanks, I needed a laugh today. Guess I'll stick with lead, being woefully ignorant of alchemy.

    Any substute for lead?

Can't seem to find a more perfect place to research than with you guys. Is there a more ecological substance than lead for casting ball that won't wear your barrel out?

    Pyrodex Pellet query

I think Triple 7 is available at Cabela's (not certain). Do I get a mold to create the conical? I know better than to use hollow points on the larger boar having had a religious experience (Oh God!) in NC using hollows in a .44 Mag Ruger Carbine.

Well that helps cinch the decision to go powder, that's all I have to set my buddies fields on fire down in Texas on a hog hunt... heck, he'ld bar b' que ME! Nope, heard enough. Set aside my penchant looking for the easy way and learn the powder method.

    Pyrodex Pellet query

arcticap, I just checked out the Cabela's site. $50.00 more for the Target model. Guess that would be easier than buying new sights and installing them. I'ld like to be able to both target at the range and be able to take a hog at my buddies ranch just outside of San Antonio. All the input...

    Pyrodex Pellet query

Thank you 'articap'. I've been perusing your posts and recognize you know your stuff. Was sayin' I love the looks of the 1890 but looks aren't everything (is what I tell myself when shaving in the mirror). So I'm probably going with the 1858 less some great deal comes along. The only powder...

    Pyrodex Pellet query

All the info on your 3 posts have been valuable to me. I'm going to set aside the laziness and use black powder. Just was intimidated by not knowing how to measure the loads correctly. With the proper device I want to be able to measure from 18 to 25 grains.

    Pyrodex Pellet query

BIG THANKS GUYS. Did not expect response that quickly! Well that decides that. Steel frame 1858 8" barrel gotta be the one, till I get some experience. Then azmntman's suggestion make sense, also.
