What to see In central Ohio?

That is as good as it gets right there. You should ask them. Other than gun stores, not much other history that I know of. Check the Ohio Historical Society for forts and Indian battle sites a little further west of Lodi. Fort Recovery or Fallen Timbers

    Heat treated flints

Did they take all the signs down that said it is illegal to remove flint from the state park? Or, was it just too tempting? As an archeological site, it is illegal to take flint or any artifacts you may find.

    Woods Walk, Need Ideas

Lots of good ideas. Doesn't sound expensive at all if you put you mind to it. It's early, still have a little snow in the ground. And of course my volunteer help doesn't know they're volunteering yet. I'll have to get a course set up. I think it's a good time of year to start. Thanks for...

    Woods Walk, Need Ideas

Took a range officers course at my local club today. While discussion muzzle loader safety it was mentioned that they used too have a muzzle loading woods walk event, which many club members miss. I stated, after much prodding, that I would consider starting one again. Problem is I don't have...

    Wool instead of wad?

I’ve never used wool as a wad, just for scent while trapping. I’m an egg carton/tow kinda guy.

    Wool instead of wad?

Bags of raw wool (gallon size) can be purchased at F & T Fur Harvesters for under $4.00. Just enter wool in the search box and it can be found. It’s clean, used for adding sent to the wool for a hole set trap.

    Colerian Barrel smooth bore

Shooting with: 80 Gr 3f Swiss 20 cal 1/4 “ Felt Wad 11/8 Oz # 71/2 shot Tow over powder Great pattern at 35 yds. No large open areas, good cover. So, next year I’ll get a 40 cal.

    Colerian Barrel smooth bore

That would be tuff to do either. The muzzle measures .573 No round balls says the barrel manufacture. I’ll have to stick with shot. I’ll probably make some paper shot cups out of craft paper. The buffer between the powder and shot is the experiment.

    Colerian Barrel smooth bore

Got ahold of Tip early this morning. Explained the situation. He said, yea you got a turkey choke barrel. Guess I forgot. My options, send it back at my cost and he would return my money, send it back at my cost and he would re-barrel it at return it at my cost. Or, wait until spring and...

    Colerian Barrel smooth bore

I’m sure Tip definitely is not out to rob me. I was just very disappointed. Seems my luck sucks. I’m disappointed in that I would have to question someone who is very proud of his work, as he should be. I respect my elders so where does one begin? I would love to be able to drive to...

    Colerian Barrel smooth bore

I’m certainly thinking about keeping it. I have many rifled barreled muzzleloaders. I just don’t know how to utilize the smaller muzzle .573 to place over powder cards, wads, over shot cards, etc large enough to “cap off” the interior .615 bore. Round ball would be out of the question, but I...

    Colerian Barrel smooth bore

Let’s see: Emailed twice, called a few times, and am patiently waiting. Shot from a bench rest. The barrel is .573 mic at muzzle. Cleaning patches, doubled, are forced in. After three inches no resistance. Removal same thing, no resistance until three inches from the end of the barrel, not...

    Colerian Barrel smooth bore

It’s a Colerian turkey barrel, shot only can be used. Without a patch the ball kinda moves around till it gets to the choke. I’m sure Tip needed to tell me the story of his champion ship shooting with round ball, but it did not apply to this gun. He did tell me he was 83 three different times in...

    Colerian Barrel smooth bore

Well folks I’m sure Tip didn’t mean to make a mistake. I let him do all the explaining of what he had to sell. I originally was looking for a 40 cal rifled barrel long rifle. We went all around his display a Friendship and he showed me what he had. I was doing the listening. I would take...

    Colerian Barrel smooth bore

Thanks for your encouragement Dave. I’ve saved a long time to get this and should not have implied that Tip would be anything but on the up and up. I’m sure it was an honest mistake. So my apologies to everyone who knows Tip. I’m am sorry. Redbearcat

    Colerian Barrel smooth bore

Well Tip was very nice. I guess it’s just a saying people use about the bank thing when feeling a little burnt. I sent off a informative email to Tip describing the situation. I paid what he wanted, which I thought was steep according to all the posts I’ve read on this forum. About $300 more...
