    .44 cal Pietta Buffalo 12"

I've yet to experience these phenomena. I load powder, wad, bullet and try when I can get them, to use #10 caps. If no can, I squeeze #11 and push them on with the hammer (carefully) or more likely a 3/8" dowel that has been rouned to seat them on the nipple. Rarely ever have a misfire, and have...

Recommend 44 cap and ball revolver

I'm only familiar with Pietta. No complaints and no failures so far.

    .44 cal Pietta Buffalo 12"

I have two... a brass frame and one all-steel... both are Pietta. I have only shot the brass frame one with 25 grains of Pyrodex P powder as a max load. Very easy to shoot and so far have none of the dreaded "frame stretches you hear about. Mine is a target version with sights as are my other...

    best group at 100 yards

The best I can say that I have done at 100 yards is all shots in the black. I have done that many times... the bull is usually 4" square sometimes a pie plate (6") which is pretty easy to do. However, with my current first choice, it is a 30" green mountain barrel in .580 and 50 yards with that...

How do U compensate for various distance with your ML?

Were not the kentucky folks who invented this windage thing not shootin smokey squirrel guns... :P

How do U compensate for various distance with your ML?

Very nice presentation! I don't shoot paper much and when I do, the target dot is just a dot and pretty much, though with a post front sight 6 o'clock and on target are just about equal, when my bullets fall short (low) or beyond (high), the condition that sent them there are pretty much...

How do U compensate for various distance with your ML?

In my opinions... if you zero at 50, you're good for 75 straight out. If you zero at 75, you're good to 90 straight out. Beyond that... for hunting that is, PASS. Burgers and the like... :) At a 75 yard zero for my guns, I'd have to add roughly 8-9 inches each 25 yards beyond. Top of the back...

    Non Wipers Only.

As for patch lube, I've pretty much adopted the Shultz recipe of either ballistol or cutting oil in a ratio of between 6-8:1 of water to oil depending on my guns. Today, most of my guns are 1-60 to 1-70 Hmmmm.... interesting debate you might have started here... I barrel bed full length all of...

    Non Wipers Only.

Consistency is probably the most important constant for all shooting sports.

    Non Wipers Only.

Three things I so with ALL of my muzzleloaders... one, I size my bullets to at the very most, .001 over bore, often .001 underbore size... in other words, my .451 I size to .450 for general shooting, .452 for hunting. Patch lube... now that is funny... because though I prefer to use the...

    Barrel thickness

overall barrel stiffness is accuracy generally... bedding helps keep the whip contained.. but then bore size versus barrel diameter aids in the determination. Internal pressures of the shot contribute... but generally the stiffer the barrel the more accurate... small bore probably being more...

Patch Lube...I know, its been talked about a lot.

Well that may well be true, but somethings really don't need explanation do they... :D for example, mixing oil with alcohol... we know that they will mix in solution, the question is, will the oil remain when the alcohol is/has evaporated... Something I'm actually going to find out today...

Patch Lube...I know, its been talked about a lot.

So did you actually just start another thread on this... hahaha... I use a Dutch Shoultz method of patch lube which is Ballistol or water soluble cutting oil (for me more available than Ballistol) in ratio's of around 7:1 water to oil on average and let them evaporate out. I experimented to see...

    Lubed RB Patches?

Probably none, but patch lube clearly can aid in accuracy for a number of reasons. I wasn't aware of much of this till I read Dutch Shoultze's treatise on accuracy and patch lube... and though they are subtle to the Neanderthal, such as is my case, if you take the time to do what he suggests...

    Chilled shot to roundballs?

No... you can use a ball bearing for a ball if you wanted to... or a marble even... it's the patch that carries the ball, and chilled shot still is able to obdurate I'm lead to believe... so have at it... :D

    Lube recipes?

beeswax, tallow or Crisco and a little vegetable oil always works day to day... add some paraffin if you want it a little more durable... 50/50 and some oil for some... I use beeswax and Crisco/paraffin with maybe 10 to 20% paraffin for grins.

New to cap & ball revolvers

I'v I'd look for triple seven if going to use a more coarse powder, but Pyrodex RS will definitely go off in you gun... performance might actually be the same as if you were using goex 3f, tho, so don't despair... but pyrodex is corrosive and requires cleaning thoroughly. 2f also is dirtier...

    .50 cal vs .54 cal

While I don't disagree with his .54 or particularly .58 caliber suggestion, I've had the opportunity to listen to many assumptions about muzzleloaders and most of them seem to rely on a lot of theory and hype from some quarters... yet on one level, some of these points are quite accurate... only...
