    There was an 1830s law in Arkansas that made it illegal to carry a hawk or a bowie knife. some reenactors got worried about it in the 1990s. I do not know if anything was ever done about it.

    1865 is a convenient date. However, Sears was selling muzzleloading shotguns that were cut down and bored out Springfields in the 1890s. I had an uncle who used a muzzleloading shotgun in the late 1920s.

    Talk to north South Skirmish Association and to people who make and sell bronze cannon about how they proof them. Proof your gun as if you intend to live fire it. Have you cast bronze before ?
