    underhammer flintlock

I enjoy flintlocks and percussion underhammer rifles....there has to be a connection. I have found very little information about underhammer flinters and would like to learn more. Right now I want to experiment with a conversion of my Hopkins and Allen underhammer that I bought when I was a kid...

    Bayonet question?

This may have been discussed already but here is my two cents. I shoot with the N-SSA and we use the bayonet all the time on line as a ramrod holder. It is stuck into the ground in front of you and you have a great ramrod holder. It is a good to keep the ramrod in or leaning on the bayonet when...

    Revolver timing

I just picked up a real nice Walker and it shoots ok so far. (High right) I will play with the hammer notch to fix that. After cleaning it I looked down the barrel to check the alignment with the chambers. All chambers are a bit off. Looking down the barrel the cyl. is rotated counter clock wise...

    Man's inhumanity to muskets

Just traded for a interesting project this week. I shoot with the N-SSA and was telling an old guy about it and he told me about a old musket that he had in the basement. I went to see it and was able to talk him out of it. He had gotten it at a sale years before and didn't know the history. It...

    Internal workings of the matchlock?

Does anyone have some close up pictures of the internals of the Jap. matchlocks. It would be nice both the internal and external spring types and how they operate. Thanks

1860 colt army fowling bad then locking after 6 rounds

I have shot Colt, Rem, and Roger and Spencer. I use the same type of lube on the cyl. pin and I can shoot the Roger and Spencer all day long with no problems. The Colt and Rem will get tight. There is a small flange on the R&S cyl. Check one out sometime. I believe the crud is deflected away...

    Matchlock Charge Bottles

Hi. I will clean off the work bench and get started on a few. I will come up with a price after I have made a number of them. :hmm: Price could go down with mass production. But to be fair to this forum, I will post my work in the Shooting Accessories section in a few days. Thanks for your...

    Matchlock Charge Bottles

Hi. I made a few out of some nice maple and posted the pictures awhile back. Take a look and if you are interested I can make them out a number of different woods. Bert

    Old cider mill

The wife might be happy if I got rid of it. She just don't see the possibilities. Her comment was, "you are going to finish the kitchen cabinets before you start on that aren't you"...But I have been looking for a basket case like this for 30 yr. Think of the fun we can have picking apples... Bert

    Old cider mill

Thanks for all the info. and help. And yes I could use pictures of a mill so that I can get this one built correctly. The two baskets or containers that the crushed apples are pressed in are missing and I will need to build them from scratch. I put the mill together a little and figured out the...

    Old cider mill

I thought you all might get a kick out of this pile of rusty metal and rotten wood I picked up at an auction the other day. The wife started to get loud when she saw that I paid $15.00 for another truck load of junk....then I explained what it is or rather could be again. Odd thing about it is...

    Flattening the horn

I have wanted to flatten a horn and maybe the oil is just the trick. Then clamp the horn between two boards. Has anyone ever tried a standard pressure cooker? That should get the temp. up. I may try it outside this weekend. I cooked down some sheep fat in the house and I never heard the end of it.

    Goex powder deposit??

I have noticed that when shooting some 3f Goex powder there are small flecks of red material left in the fowling. When shooting a Sharps I notice the flakes range from oat meal to corn flake size but very thin. Is this normal? What is it? Is anyone else getting this deposit or is it just me?

    Black powder coyote?

Pulaski Co. Tenn eh. I teach in Pulaski Co. VA. That old Count Pulaski must have gotten around. There are lots of coyotes here and around the house. The last one I tried to skin smelled so bad that I could taste it for 2 days. I need to learn about calling them in and maybe try a shot. Have a...

    Austrian Lorenz Carbine

Has anyone out there had any luck with the Lorenz carbine that Dixie sells? I have read some bad things about the earlier ones they sold. I have seen the originals on line at matches and they are impressive. I would love to put one together if someone has a pile of parts to get rid of. Any ideas?

    cane powder measures

My brother and I made the mistake of planting bamboo about 35 yr ago. I have a huge patch. Round up has no effect. I would love to be able to control it. It ranges from 1/4 in. to 2 in. I use it in the garden and it does well for about 3 yr. If left in the sun it will split but I have cut some...

    Comanche Moon Rifles

I watched it while working in the shop. Glad that I didn't put in any serious sit down time. I thought there was going to be something about the war of northern aggression?? I also could not figure out if it ended. Was there a story line? Were the rifles mostly cva hawkens or what? At least they...
