    Crazy Question

You sound like you are one of the reasons I usually refrain from joining sites like this. Thank you for any information I have gained. You can strip me from your records. Good By.

    Crazy Question

Took me a minute to figure out what was causing the excitement. I guess some people would be happier if I used something like this this for my avatar, but I believe the picture is my choice.

    Crazy Question

I certainly hope so. I would hate to end up wearing any of my Matchlock musket parts. Even some of the Cap'n ball shooters say it looks dangerous at both ends.

What is your main use for your muzzle loaders?

I build mine and get satisfaction from making them work. It's also nice if I can manage to hit a target with them.

WANTED Smoothbore Barrel, 16, 20,24'ish Gauge

Eterry, I bought my barrel the end of January. Numrich stock is always changing. Have you tried e-Bay? If you would like to see my project, it's here under, "Looking for Matchlock drawings." Jack

WANTED Smoothbore Barrel, 16, 20,24'ish Gauge

To build my Matchlock, I bought an unfinished 20GA. barrel from Numrich Arms for $30.00. 20GA. is just the right bore dia. for shooting a patched glass marble.

    Matchlock mechanism drawings, anybody?

Couldn't stand not tinkering...PhotoShoped a Dragon to fit the side plate, etched it on and then filled the etching with Aluma-black.

Average Pull Weight Of Lever Or Trigger On A Matchlock

Oh, OK. This last winter was my first venture into Matchlocks and I'm still not savvy enough to realize when someone is pulling my leg.

    Inletting a stock

Kansas-Volunteer. You and the others are the reason I subscribe to this site. The wealth of information and experience you all bring here is over whelming. I still have a number of parts in the mail and I would like to find a better piece of wood, but with summer almost upon us, I may have to...

    Inletting a stock

Thanks Dave, My barrel is, straight, 15/16 across the flats and .50 cal.

    Inletting a stock

Thanks EC121, That sounds a lot less complicated. I'll cut the groove like I did for my round barreled musket. I made a router cut to approximately where the bottom would be, then used a round rasp and a dowel wrapped in sandpapper for the final shaping.

    Inletting a stock

As soon as my breach plug arrives I'm going to start on the stock for my rifle. The barrel is octagon and I'm thinking of ways to make the cut out. I'm thinking of starting a router cut down the middle, the width of the bottom barrel flat. I'll make this cut to a depth that the flats on the...

    Matchlock mechanism drawings, anybody?

While waiting for parts for my rifle build, I've been fine tuning the Matchlock. I made a new rear, (peep) sight and I made new barrel retaining pins. I liked the looks of the ones I've seen that are threaded into a button on either side of the forearm, so I made some. o_O First, I over drilled...

When casting lead balls, do you drop them in water to cool......

I use a, "Bottom Drop" pot and I have it sitting on a large cookie sheet to catch any overflow, or drips. Bullets and sprue are dropped onto a large soft rag. I'm more than a little paranoid about having any water, or wet lead in close proximity to my lead pot
