    Lead balls have casting imperfections

In muzzle Blast magazine about 15 to 20 years ago they did a test by drilling halfway into ball then loading hole up, hole down then hole sideways for several each position. Their conclusions were that sprue up or down didn't make any difference because from a rifle the ball would rotate around...

    Range Rods -

It used to be that I could buy 3/8" brass rod in 6' lengths for $8.00 each. That allowed me to cut and make 2 for most barrel lengths I had. I orginally had 6 that I used with Scouts and 4-H kids trainings. I now only have 2 left as some Adults decided they liked them more than I needed to keep...

    Charcoal

I use a 6 qt cast iron pot with a cast-iron lid. I drilled an 1/8" hole in the center of the lid close to the loop on top. I fill it with thumb size lengths, on end until it is full, using Willow from my yard that blew down a few years ago. I set that on top of my propane burner and cover that...

WTK best way to clean lead

Shiney lead is more of an issue for lead transfer into skin than dull or oxidized lead is (at least according to medical field) I've always wiped them off and shot then, once I did put them in a vibrating tumbler with corn cob media

    RH/LH

Of there was a large problem with ot, I'm sure there would not be s x s flintlock shotguns available. More of an issue for those shooting next to you I would guess.

So Re: cleaning - Does anyone use an ultrasonic for handgun cleaning?

When I was with Sheriffs office about 10 years ago I had a conversation with a big city police agency Officer. They didn't clean their own firearms, instead they turned them in and they were cleaned using ultrasonic then into a lube tank after which they dripped overnight when they were wiped...

    Cleaning Rod Help

I buy brass rod of either 3/8" or 1/2" in diameter to make my own. Typically comes in either 5 or 6 ft length which can be drilled and tapped on end to accept proper jag or screw or scraper. Recent years these have gone up in price. 10 years ago a 6 ft piece of 3/8" was $15 from my local metal...

Ask help to cast my first round balls

Remember, even a drop of sweat falling into the molten lead can cause an explosion of steam almost emptying the pot of lead.

Is there a safe way to dry fire a percussion revolver?

Might try a length of aquarium air tubing slipped over the nipple as a "snapcap" of sorts

    Lead

Watched a YouTube video couple months ago, they attached a 8400# keel to the sailboat they were remaking

Wet BP Can it be used?

During winter, I dry my pucks on a baking sheet spaced about 8" above my pellet stove. More than heat, it takes a spark. Used to be a video of static electricity passing through a pile of black without ignition until the brown paper towel under it finally caught fire

    SPLIT THE BALL TARGET QUESTION

On mine, I used a single bit axe and welded a lag bolt onto the head. It has been used over 15 years and still has a good unbroken edge

    Lets talk firestarting

Some of my best are petrified wood found around my place. The rock shaves a piece of metal to create the spark

    Lead ball inside powder horn

Before graphite coated powder, moisture would cause it to clump. My homemade will clump if left in flask a few months. A small ball would be a great way to assist in clump breakage

    Excuse Me, I'm Loading

I instructed for many years both youth and adults, typically I continue what I am doing while telling them each step and why then taking questions or comments after getting done. That way I am simply reinforcing each step outloud that I am already doing silently. That is way I have handled it...

Midway - maybe wait a few months to order from them. . .while they work the kinks out.

I called 800 # with tracking and my complaint.(Packages being left at mailbox, on road, outside of gate, inside of gate etc, along a 200 yard stretch from mailbox to drive way in country) 1st call I got no responses, 2nd package I got minimal response. 3rd package, person on other end tried to...

I just hand rub it some more, let friction from hand rubbing warm until gets slightly tacky

    Stock refinishing. First coat...?

BlO and mineral spirits, hand rub into stock until its soaked in. I rarely use a rag to wipe down as each layer is hand rubbed in from pouring a bit onto palm of hand then rubbing as far as it goes then adding a bit more. If a piece looks dry, add a bit more to palm and rub in. Typically when...
