Too cold to shoot time to cast!

Cold here too, like 0. I'd like to get into home bullet making for my cap&ball and other handguns. Is there the equipment readily available or has the supply dried like all other handloading stuff?

Percussion caps and powders out of stock

My little party store-sporting goods store has plenty of Remington #10 and #11 caps and a few pounds of 777. I got what I need.

    DGW shipping

Oh well. I have a hammer on order and hammer spring. I guess I'll quit looking for the package anytime soon.

    Decision to make

Colt or Remington? I would go Pietta on a Colt and Uberti on a Remington 1858 due to the crowned barrel and dovetailed front sight.

    It's a shooter.

That looks like a great load. I'm guessing around 800-900 fps if your using black powder.

    Black Powder Shooting Books

I've had Sam Falada’s book since the early 80's and the pages are turning yellow. Nice book but these days forums like this are better for pure information. I still like reading a book in my recliner instead of sitting here in front of this thing.

    Cylinder cleaning???

I had flash rust after hot soapy water and dry time in front of the wood stove. Now I always use WD-40 Specialist after the water to get it all out; no more flash rust.

Praise for a Pietta and Slix-Shot Nipples

I need to get a set for my 1861. Ive heard nothing but good things about them.

The Big Dixie 1858 Remington NM

Probably but I can’t be sure a regular frame would fit my hand so I have to actually hold one. If not I’ll bring home an 1860 Colt.

The Big Dixie 1858 Remington NM

Wish I could report in with a comparison but I haven’t left the North Pole yet. I’m waiting for a Cabelas sale before I drive six hours round trip.

    Wad thickness

I have these cards and they are cheap. I use them in my rifle but don't think I need them for my revolvers. https://www.trackofthewolf.com/Categories/PartDetail.aspx/246/1/WAD-510-B

Not as cold as today! lol New nipple wrench should be delivered today and might shoot tomorrow. Supposed to be -20F wind chill so probably not.

The Big Dixie 1858 Remington NM

I’m just a little south of Mackinaw. Quiet aways from Lansing.

The Big Dixie 1858 Remington NM

Yeah, I really want the 5 1/2” RMA ! A field trip to Cabela’s is in the works. After really going over this gun I found under the loading lever on the barrel they stamped “2017”. This must be something new.

    50 Caliber magnum?

This guy tested what it took to blow up a muzzleloader rifle. It was smokeless that finally did it in.

    Yes, that’s it.
