    Squirrel gun question

Yes it is! I enjoy a frosty morning, listening to squirrels foraging through the leaves and cutting acorns in the trees, with black powder smoke drifting through the fall woods almost better than anything. I gots a "squirrel rifle" also....and it's probably one of my favorite guns. Traditions...

    Bobcat Sling Swivel Install ?

I have a Bobcat 50 cal and I did exactly what Bubba said. I bought a Uncle Mike's swivel kit that uses the usual wood screw-in stud on the rear and a .500 thimble clamp on the front. It has worked flawlessly. Uncle Mike's used to make a swivel kit just for this process. Not sure if they still do...

    Fiber optic sights

That's a great idea to try, Danny. I'll also try that with my next rifle. Thanks.

    Muzzleloader/treestand question

Another traditional bowhunter here! I shoot a t/d recurve. I also hunt from climber and lock-on stands bowhunting. I use them during black powder and firearms seasons also. Like Lobo, I have slings installed on all my rifles as I'm a hunter and not necessarily a target shooter. I set my stands...

    Black powder

Not sure where in SC you are, but Ledfords Trading Post in Hickory NC has it. That's where I buy my Goex powder. May be worth the drive for you if you're in the Upstate. The price is on the steep side (last time it was $28 a can) but it's the only place I can find it over the counter in my area...

    New caplock rifle (pics)

    Sweet!!

    Fiber optic sights

I feel your pain, Ron! I had to replace the sights on my hunting rifles with fiber optic sights also. Low light conditions in the timber led to not being able to see my sights period, resulting in missed opportunities. I know it's not traditional but I'm a hunter and a quick, clean kill is what...

    "Urban" Deer Hunt Freak Out

If he talked to you like that, church is the best place for him. Pray for him that he sees his state as it really is and changes.

    TC Hawken

I have one in 50 cal. Shoots a PRB w/ 75g Goex very well.

Need more patching eduction - please

I don't have the experience some of these crusty old mountain men here do, but I'll lightly toss this out there anyhow...:) I use TOW Mink Oil for hunting patch lube also. I like it, or rather my rifles like it. I take a patch, swirl it around a bit on the cake (a little less if its warm out...

    Goex v. Pyrodex v. Triple 7

I don't have the experience as most of you guys, but I was shooting last summer with a friend who had some Pyrodex and I was shooting Goex. I was attempting to get a workable load for a .32 and swabbing good between shots. I tried both powders. The Pyrodex was noticeably dirtier and fouled my...

    Circle of life this morning...

Wow. That must have been awesome to watch! Probably 15 years ago a friend of mine was spring turkey hunting. He was sitting with his back to a big oak tree calling a tom. Suddenly from seemingly nowhere a bobcat grabbed his left arm, biting him pretty good. Of course he jumped up, yelled and...

    .32 and Squirrels

With the forum conversion, they are gone I guess. I had to re-register to get back on the board and all the private conversations I had are in never-never land somewhere I suppose.

    .32 and Squirrels

Travis, I am using a set of Williams Fire Sights. My eyesight is great mid-range but focusing on a small point my eyes struggle, especially in low light as it often is in the timber while hunting. The sights that came on my rifles (notch rear, blade front) I struggled to see them, especially in...

    .32 and Squirrels

I cant help but wonder this.... Back in late summer when I was very frustrated with this rifle's accuracy shooting a PRB, I shot some maxi-balls through it. The accuracy of those was some better but still not what I wanted. When I got the rifle back out and shot it some more, the accuracy...

    .32 and Squirrels

Back out this morning for a couple hours after feeding livestock. Added a few more plump grey squirrels to the stew meat pot. I don't think I could ever get tired of seeing game moving about and seeing & smelling the black powder smoke drifting through the hardwood forest on a cool morning...

    Where did he go

Wow, that's a nice one. Those big bucks didn't get old and big by being dumb, that's for sure. Its like they have a sixth sense and know when its time to go into recluse mode...that is until some of the ladies start smelling sweet, then they seem to throw caution to the wind and show back up.
