    Single or SxS

At current prices shot is expensive, before you buy, ask a hunting buddy for a modern shot shell in 4, 5,or 6, cut the shell apart and use the shot in your gun. Pick the shot with the best pattern and buy what you need/works best in your gun. This will save an expensive shot buy that you may...

    Tc New Englander 12 gauge

Sky Chief load was not any better than squire load with card wads in my New Englander with a mod choke for 1 1/8 and 1 1/4 loads

    Home made shotgun wads

Ive used plastic wads and they work, however when recovered you can see they are melted, and will leave some plastic in the gun. My grandfather who hunted with a 16 ga black powder shot gun until about 1920 told me he used news paper, paper bags and feed sack as wadding. What ever was on hand...

    Shot Size

Your results may vary... My experience...any shot size will work 20 yds or so. 30 yds or so 7 1/2 just knock them off the limb/tree or rolls them over just to run away. 5 or 6 works best over all for a kill shot for squirrles rabbits or birds

    Home made square shot

I had an old roll of lead solder wire about 1/16 thick. I just took wire cutters and cut it into 1/16th pieces, quick way to get shot, spreads very quickly but has enough power to put big holes in a steel can at 25 to 30 yds.

Small Game Load for Pedersoli Classic .12

My experience...any shot size will work 20 to 25 yds. 30 yds or so 7 1/2 just knock them off the limb/tree or rolls them over just to run away. 5 or 6 works best over all for a kill shot for squirrles rabbits or birds

    Choke for turkey hunting

I shot a New Englander with a modified choke tube. No problems loading. A Full Choke tube is very tight and hard to load. Keep shot inside of 25 to 30 yds equals dead bird. I use 90 gains of powder and equal volume of shot (5 seems to work for me). (the Square Load).

    Maple time soon

I'm in SW Ohio and some folks make it here or create a mix of maple and walnut. I make a gal or two of maple from my yard trees. I tapped my walnuts last year, and did not get enough to make pure walnut so I added to maple syrup. I will try again this spring, maybe the sap will be running...

    TC New Englander shotgun

I also have a New Englander. I have found 6 works for birds, like dove and chucker. 5 or 4 for squirrel and pheasant. 30 to 35 yds max no matter what choke you select. This is using the square load. 40 yds and beyond you are just making smoke, lucky to even bring down a dove.

    Poor mans shot pouch

Like several has suggested using diferent forms of cannisters. I use old shotgun shells. 20-16-12 ga shot shells are generally diferent colored plastic and I use them to separate powder and shot. I use 16 ga for shot and insert this into a 12 ga shell. I use the 20 ga for powder and insert...

Advice on muzzleloader - not the "usual" options

Had a similar issue with range accuracy. I stopped using patch lube and used only spit patch for round ball shooting. Cut my group in half beyond 50 yds. Seems the patch lube is too slick and the round ball was not stable inflight.

New (to me) TC New Englander 12 gauge

I have a 12 gauge New Englander, #5 shot worked better on pheasant and squirrel for me. 7 1/2 and 6 needed follow up action. I just use the improve and modified chokes and have no complants on loading. If you go to full choke you will have pull the choke for each load to get wads down the...

    16 gauge loads

For starter I use the old rule...Equal vol of powder and lead shot. For hunting I use about 90 grains of powder and an equal vol of shot usually #5 or 6. For target (Clays) I use about 70 grains of powder and same volume of shot (7 1/2.

    Did some patterning today.

I have a New Englander also. I have tried it for turkey hunting but so far they have kept out of range 40 to 50 yds. I was never happy with the power of the 7 1/2 beyond 20 to 25 yds. I use 5 as primary load. Lot of penetrating power to 30 yds and maybe 35 if you have a choke for your shot...

    Pheasant Loads for 12 Gauge

6 and 7 1/2 would not kill consistantly even at close range over a dog. A lot of wounded birds the dog had to chased down. I switched to 5s and the birds dropped dead.

Safe load for TC New Englander 12ga

http://www.tcarms.com/manuals/ Check out TC Link Max load is 100 Grain of Powder and 1 3/8 Oz of Lead shot This is for Side locks (New Englander)

10 Ga. Mixed-Size Shot Load Performance On Pheasants?

I have a 12ga New Englander. I found that 7 1/2 do not make clean pheasant kills. 6 or 5 do a better job out of my shotgun.

    New Englander

Best all around gun TC made. I bought mine and added the shotgun barrel. What a hoot, hunt deer with the 50 cal and birds and squirrel with the 12 ga. Just change out the barrel.

    12 ga New Englander

I hunt a pheasant perserve and the shot are fairly close. 6 and 7 1/2 shot would bring the pheasant down almost all the time, but it would not kill. I switched to 5 shot. Kills them dead. I use 1 1/8 to 1 1/4 oz of shot with equal vol of powder.

    Bird Shot Questions

If you want to try out different size shot, talk to your hunting buddies and get a few shot shells or just buy a box of shotgun shells. Cut them open and use the the shot. Cheaper than buy 5 lbs and not liking it.
