Building a companion pistol for my long rifle

I finished a Kibler Colonial in .54 caliber last year. I was thinking that I now would like to build a companion for it in the same caliber from the same time period. Since I am still a greenhorn I am looking for a kit with a pre carved stock. Something not overly complicated but good quality...

Opinion on side plate engraving idea

Since I was a kid I was in love with the Rev War sharp shooters(widow makers). I know a lot of the stories are myth, and have been educating myself a bit more on actual accounts. My idea on this Kiblers colonial rifle is to have the words Widow Maker engraved in colonial style cursive on the...

Can a stock be sanded too smooth?

Just wondering , can you sand a stock too smooth to where it will affect how AF or stain is absorbed? Can it be so smooth that it will not penetrate too deeply? Kibler's videos show him sanding down to the 300's. Does anyone go any finer?

    Am I overthinking this?

While reading the Gun maker of Grenville County, the author states that you should not leave your barrel out of the I assume unfinished stock overnight as it may warp.
