    Front sight advice PLEASE

Not that I disagree that a solder job is the correct fix but there is a LocTite product called Black Max. OEM's are using it to attach front sight bases, ribs and ramps on shotguns. It is also used in laser manufacturing. Its impressive and if the surfaces are prepped and primed properly it aint...

    CLP Mil Spec?

I was thinking about this while driving home from dinner- Muzzleloading locks tend to carry high spring and axial loads with higher point loading than modern lock works. A higher viscosity lubricant than CLP is in order.

    CLP Mil Spec?

I can’t stand it. It is at best marginal for its “Clean & Lubricate” role. As to the “Protect” aspect it does ok- I dry brush it on show firearms then wipe them down with a micro fiber towel. ArmorAll for firearms imo is all it’s good for. I understand the single product for multiple uses from...

    L&R Locks

What is the deal with the “upgrade” parts for older L&R locks? I am building up a NOS Sharon Trade Rifle with a 50 year old L&R percussion lock that is untouched. What necessitates the upgrade?

So, you say you prefer metal work !

I would rather do the metalwork all day with cuts on my fingertips and the metal immersed in saltwater than do woodwork for 10 minutes. I absolutely despise woodwork

    Emery Cloth Roll

Reminds me of the Mars Orbiter that burned in because nobody did the metric conversion……. …Oops

    Barrel Thickness and Dovetail Depth

Make sure to use the non chlorinated (green can) of Brakleen. Phosgene gas is the result of heating chlorine- bad ju ju. Denatured alcohol is a safer bet.

    Emery Cloth Roll

After battling the nightmare of cheap, crappy abrasives in machine shops I have become snobbish. I will do everything I can to stick with name brands such as 3M, Norton and the like. I can’t afford cheap.

SOLD Jonathan Browning Mountain Rifle .45

The majority of JBMR’s are iron mounted, this example is brass mounted which to the best of my knowledge makes it a bit harder to find. The trigger is adjustable via a screw in the trigger plate- push the trigger forward to set. It will fire unset as well. Be gentle with the mainspring, they are...

SOLD CVA Mountain Rifle stock, 1” barrel channel, $50

With no patchbox it is the stock from a Big Bore Mountain Rifle.

    Which powder drum

Don’t do that- cut the head off of the screw, run the shank in but leave 2-3 threads proud. Peen them over then file it down. Peening a small diameter screw will make it expand and lock into place.
  19. bptactical

    Safe edge on a file

The chalk keeps it from loading up with swarf(cuttings). Especially critical when filing soft materials such as brass, aluminum etc. Another thing rarely discussed is proper technique- always lift the file off of the work at the end of a stroke. Too many people just drag the file backwards...
