    50 or 54 cal for black bear

    I've taken black bear with both 50 and 54 cal with patched round ball. Both are effective with the 54 being maybe a little more so but the 50 drops em just as dead. All have been broadside shots in the chest and all were shoot thru at ranges from 20 yds to 70 yds. Here is a pic of my last bear...

    Appears to be a home craftsman's build. Inlaying looks good. I would assume the parts were picked up from different sources which would be typical for a gun of this type. Nothing wrong with it that shipping to me wouldn't resolve. Good find

    FFg vs. FFFg for Hunting

    Using 2Fg vs 3Fg is really going to depend on your firearm caliber and what works best in it. As a rule of thumb: over 45 cal use 2Fg, 45 cal and smaller use 3Fg but your results in your gun may be different. Just experment to see which combination of powder, patch, ball and lube work best...
