    1860 colt day

Took the colt out today and put 18 rounds through it. Found it very difficult to load with my arthritic sore and somewhat unresponsive fingers. The grip is also really weird feeling. Right hand can't safely feel the trigger and the left hand the trigger feels really stiff. No win either...

    1851 trouble

Why won't this 1851 go to half cock and allow the cylinder to turn freely? My original post on this a short time ago seems to have disappeared.

Bad half cock in 1851 .36 cal Pietta made in 2020

I took my 1851 out of the safe to clean and was cycling it for function and when cocked to the half cock to rotate cylinder, the cylinder was locked into the full cock position, would no rotate. Happened on all the way around. What would the probable cause of this malfunction? I know nothing...

Oldest gun found in the U S

On my favorite MG board there was a story about the finding of the oldest gun found in this country. The gun is a wall gun called an harkbut, 42" long weighing 40 bs and about a 7 gauge smoothbore. Found recently by a woman with a metal detector after finding a lot of nails and crossbow...

    Year of manufacture

I just acquired a Lyman GPR in .54 caliber. Nice looking, all metal is blued steel. Says Lyman Midddletown Conn. stamped top of barrel. Stamped made in Italy with a ser. # a557xxx. Great Plaines Rifle .54 on other side of barrel. Only thing I don't understand is there are no proof marks at...

    what does one do?

I have a bunch of flints that are too small or short to knap further for a rifle or pistol. Is there any other use for them? It seems strange to just throw them away.

Just general info on this Indian Enfield

Got this Indian Enfield smoothbore from a Board member . It's in very good shape but I'd like some info on it if anybody here knows about such things. The markings under the barrel are plain and easy to read but I don't know what some of them stand for. I don't believe any are proof marks...

    What's the best to use.

I have a rifle with a thin front sight blade that was filed down. I think that it is brass. The rifle shoots extremely high. I want to affix a piece if iron to the top of the sight to lower the impact of the bullet. I've worked a lot with wood but I'm pretty ignorant of the ways of metal...

    Buckshot

There was a thread awhile back about the size of commercial buckshot that was usable in a .32 cal MZ rifle. Anybody remember what size buckshot was recommended? Thanks.

Would the 1/4 x 28 size die be correct for the Pedersoli .45 cal. sidelock rifle for nipple channel repair?

Safe load for old sxs 20 ga shotgun

I got this older 20 sxs percussion shotgun awhile back and am wondering about a safe load to use in it. It has 32" barrels, the chokes don't matter to me. It has absolutely no identifying stampings externally or in the locks. No numbers at all. There may be a proof mark on an outer barrel but...

    1861 navy nipple threads

I've had this navy out a couple of times trouble free. Taken the nipples out and re installed with no trouble. This time one of the nipples absolutely would not go back into the threaded hole. Would barely start then stop and go cattywampus. Don't know how the cylinder threads got...

    Polish capper

The polish capper got here in the mail today. Ordered it the 4th of April. Today is the 20th of April. Seems we can get stuff faster by international mailing than we can get domestic. Funny how that works, It is a quality piece of work and we'll find out how it works this coming weekend.

    need a fix

I have two new cap lock revolvers, an 1860 Army and a 51 Navy. I am unable to get the loading lever latch to move rear ward on either gun without tools. Fingers can't make them move. Is this common? Sure put a damper on my enthusiasm for these guns. Any ideas to lighten them up some will be...

    1851 .36 cal navy, pietta

Ordered the revolver about three or four weeks ago from DGM. Woman said it'd be six weeks for delivery. My credit card took the hit for the proper amount today. Guess they are going to ship real soon. Good news.

    what's wrong here?

I have a .45 cal percussion rifle that when fully cocked, and if the cock is pulled to the rear and released the cock goes fully forward and fires the rifle. The cock will stay as it normally should fully cocked and fire normally unless it is pulled back and released. I know precious little...
