Polishing the bore on a new ML.............

Strong words for someone you know nothing about and have never met. Will put you on the ignore list.

Is this pure Ballistol, moose milk, or other?

I am curious about this as it states that it is a moisture displacing lubricant. I would like to see what is in it.

Polishing the bore on a new ML.............

I would not worry about it until after you have loaded and fired them for quite a few rounds. Make sure your loading procedure is the same each time, find a good patch / ball combo and work on your powder charge. I have fired quite a few new guns over the last few years, and none have had a...

Patch lube for round ball shooting..........Lawdy.

There are so many people using so many different things to lube I found myself confused when I got back into roundball shooting. I finally decided to get a liquid lube (Hoppes BP Lube) and a paste style (TOW Mink Oil) and got to shooting. I have tried Dutch's dry patch also with good results. I...

    Kibler SMR barrel?

Quite different but I have a TC Seneca with a 32 barrel and a 45 Barrel both are fairly light and nice to carry but the 45 feels very well balanced and I could easily walk all day with it. Doesn't cost much more than a 40 to shoot and with a quality barrel most likely very accurate.

    My build has started

Barrel is cut and crowned and its back with the builder. Next post will have a few pics. When I showed up at his shop, he and another gentleman who are both members of the horn builders guild (which I didn't know was a real thing) were working on some spoons and other items made from bull horn...

In an earlier post, I talked about finding percussion caps at auctions. These are the caps that are currently in my shooting box.

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Decided to shoot the Seneca 45 that shoots high today. Switched powder up to 60 grains 2F Goex with a swaged .440 ball and .015 patch with Hoppes BP Lube. burying the front blade in the bottomed out rear sight I finally as able to get it to hit point of aim at 35 yards. I only had a little time...

Patch lube for round ball shooting..........Lawdy.

I have used Dry patch Balistol and water, Hoppes BP lube and TOW mink oil all with good results. The Mink Oil and Hoppes I can tell zero difference between the two. When I am at the range I usually have a small dropper style bottle that i use to put a drop of Hoppes right in the middle of the...

    My build has started

So I am having the barrel cut down to 38 inches. took the barrel to another gunsmith friend who is cutting and crowning the barrel. While I was there he said he wanted to check and make sure the barrel is perfectly straight and if not he would take care of that also. I asked him about my 45...

    My build has started

One of the rifles was his build also in 40 caliber the other belonged to a friend of his who helped him get started building. He is a talented wood worker and craftsman. If any of you are familiar with Conner Prairie in Central Indiana, he worked there after retiring from teaching. Conner...

    My build has started

Some of you may remember that about a year and a half ago I purchased a straight 7/8" 42-inch barrel in 40 caliber and a really beautiful nicely figured maple pre carved stock for a little of nothing at a sale. The retired principal from my old High School agreed to do the build for me. We...

    Small and light percussion styles

I often think about a Hawken style flintlock along the lines of a Seneca. I would build it with a slightly longer barrel 32 or so inches, slightly longer LOP 14" or so, double key barrel wedges and with traditional sights. 3/4 inch barrel a plum brown color with a slender high grade curly maple...

    Aquisition of black powder

I Get over 450 shots per pound of powder as I shoot small bores exclusively for the time being. I have enough powder for 23,000 shots on hand but when I go through 5 LBS or more I restock and rotate my supply always shooting the oldest first.

Any chance we'll see powder from Goex in 2023 ?

My hope is that Estes focuses on bringing 1 quality powder to the market instead of having a standard Goex vs Goex Olde Eynsford. I have shot both and have developed loads using both and Olde Eynsford was a better powder all around. On the other hand I did not get the same results using Swiss...
