Pictures of my restored 45cal TC Hawken.

Very nice, a rifle any Mountain Man would be proud to carry.

    Pawn Shop Percussion

$100 spent on that rifle is way better and will last much longer than $100 spent taking the kids to the movie theatre or out to dinner.

    FFFg in 50 Cal Hawkin?

Great thanks. I bought all 4 bottles that he had.........for $60. Couldn't pass it up for that. It's Goex in the plastic containers so can't be really old.

    FFFg in 50 Cal Hawkin?

Is it ok to shoot FFFg in a 50 cal? I typically shoot FFg but am about out and a local shop has a couple jugs of FFF? Curious if it is too fine and increases pressures or if it can be loaded like FFg? Thanks.

    Percussion caps #11

Picked up a few at our local Sportsman's store. Nice to see them in stock again. Had been making them with the 22lrreloader kit, but 'store bought' is sure easy.

Favorite Load for your TC Hawken .50 Cal

Would love to find a more powerful load but as I increase the powder over 60-65gr, I can just watch the groups open up. My rifle has the 1:48 barrel. Makes me wonder if a round ball has an optimal RPM?

Favorite Load for your TC Hawken .50 Cal

Been working to find the most accurate load in my TC Haken. Have always shot decent groups ~2"-3" @ 50 yards but lately have been on a mission to shrink that down. My rifle has always shot better 'dirty' with TC pre lubed patches and .490 RB's. I remember Dutch saying that my patches were too...

Lubing patches with mink oil ?

Bet everyone in the area will be hungry within a few shots.

what do you use when swabbing between shots?

T/C #13. Just a diagonal line across the patch of wet/damp dots from a Visine dropper. Swab in and out, load up and shoot. No issues here.

Called our local Walmarts, no caps. Maybe soon.

    Minié Ball Trajectory

Plenty of assumptions but figuring a 425gr projectile going 1300fps with a bc of .131 sighted at 75 yards your rifle will be about 1" high at 25 yards, 1.3" high at 50, zero at 75, -3.2" at 100 yards, -8.4" at 125 yards and -15.8" at 150 yards. I use Hornady's calculator quite a bit. Simple and...

    Function of a patented breech?

Found this interesting. At least the pics really show what is going on. https://www.northwestfirearms.com/threads/thompson-center-hawken-renegade-fire-channel-patented-breech.374193/

    #11 percussion caps

Make your own. #10 Percussion Cap Maker Bought the die and prime all kit a month or so ago and have made over 100 caps so far. Work great and they are cheap and easy to make.

    Favorite Target for Load Development

FWIW: I am sitting at a computer with AutoCAD on it and have printers and plotters at my disposal. I can make any target I can dream up, just wondering what works for others. I'm thinking an 11x17 with a couple 1" thick red crosses may just be the ticket. Thanks.

    Favorite Target for Load Development

Great idea - I use similar to sight in compound bows, don't know why that did not dawn on me sooner. Aging eyes are the problem. Young guys with good eyes don't know what we are experiencing.......yet. Thanks.

    Favorite Target for Load Development

I know, I know, a big buck is all our favorite target but........until then I need to do some load development. Wondering what is everyone's favorite target for precise aiming? A 2" Diamond set like a snow cone on top of the front sight bead seems to be best for me. Although a circular target...

    Idaho Muzzleloader

You are really missing out on a chance (excuse) to by a new muzzle loader......a nice Hawken with a 1:60 barrel for patched round balls would be an idea.

    More Cap Making Observations

Cool to build one yourself (if you have equipment and knowhow), but the one available from 22reloader.com is a nice piece of kit and worth the $50 to me.
