SOLD "Sold Pending Funds" Cabelas - Investarms Hawkin Style 50 Caliber ** Price Reduced **

As noted, it is an Investarms sold via Cabela's in the 1990's. The bore is NOT frosty, it is pristine. Just making a little room in the gun closet. Twist is 1:48, BTW. I have only shot roundball in it, and it groups well at 50 yards. When buying a replacement nipple, just make sure you...

SOLD "Sold Pending Funds" Cabelas - Investarms Hawkin Style 50 Caliber ** Price Reduced **

Posting bore photos here that a few have requested. Best I can do without a borescope. Thanks to the user that suggested putting a AAA battery in the bore to reflect light from my flashlight. One shot of the muzzle crown.

SOLD "Sold Pending Funds" Cabelas - Investarms Hawkin Style 50 Caliber ** Price Reduced **

I am selling my 50 caliber Hawken style rifle made by Investarms. It is the Cabela's branded version. All brass furniture with beautiful walnut in a fairly high gloss. The barrel is blued with all metal (no plastic) sights. The gun is in near mint condition, there is a small scratch on the...

    OUT OF SIGHT

The front sight needs a bit of "drifting" in the dovetail. Remember it moves opposite the direction you want the group to go. Put the rear sight back in the center, drift the front sight a bit and try again.

    Lyman GPR Sights

I have the Lyman 16AML AND 37ML HUNTING SIGHTS on mine, also use the rear peep with the front bead, works well.

    Not so Good Browning

Not sure of the spring attachment method, but if the remains of it can be easily removed, a hobby blacksmith might be able to make a usable replacement. Jim

    BP Substitute Questions

Pyrodex always worked just fine for me. Start with the same load as BP, and experiment. Clean right after shooting with lots of water or moose milk . . then thorough cleaning at home. WD40 after cleaning.

    Black powder

I notice you live in SC. The Cabela's in Fort Mill does NOT have BP. If you ask, you will be shown the stuff like Triple 7 and told that is our black powder. There is a shop in Hickory, NC that sells it. There are way more places up north selling it, if you every drive up to PA on I-81. You...

    Front sight with rear peep

I used this Lyman front sight with my peep. https://www.lymanproducts.com/brands/lyman/sights/muzzleloader-sights/16aml-and-37ml-hunting-sights.html I liked the white bead when hunting. If you want to a fiber optic front sight works great too, but looks even less P.C. If your purely target...

    Murphy's Oil Soap,

I have used Dutch's moose milk recipe for years . . maybe 17. I have always used Murphy's Oil Soap instead of Lestoil, because it was what I had. Also always used Balistol for the water soluble oil. It was always worked well. I have used Murphy's Oil Soap and water mix as a patch lube, it...

    Hazmat rates for shippin powder

When I lived in Saline, MI i bought my real BP from Johnson's Sporting goods in Adrian. It is a pleasant drive out through the Irish hills. I bought my Triple & from Meijers. Along with caps and other odds and ends. Jim in NC now.

Identify the model of this Pedersoli?

I own one, if you get it at a good price don't be shy ($220 ish). Shoots very well. And looks great. I think the Investarms rifles are pretty good shooters. Jim

    New GPR

I wonder if you got some "new - old stock". Mine from 2003 looks exactly like that case hardening. I bought it directly from Lyman as a kit at this time. Jim

    Cosmoline (grease) cleanup?

Not sure about cleaning inside the bore, but once the metal parts are separated from the wood and somewhat cleaned with the mild solvent of your choice . . . wait for your wife to be out for the night and run the parts through the dishwasher. Worked well for me . .. Jim

What is the moisture in the pan?

I think the issue here is energy transfer, to change phases from solid to liquid or gaseous state takes a huge amount of energy . . . although the temperatures and pressures are high, the conditions are only present for a few milliseconds, and enough energy does not transfer to the steel. The...

    Olde Eynsford

Around 2008 +/- a couple years, William Knight wrote a made available a 100+ page, well written, research paper on black powder and the various manufacturers. At some point I was really interested and downloaded all his writings from a BP mailing list where he made them available. He has a...

    BP temperature sensitive?

Correct, in fact the bore will shrink more than the ball, but neither is likely to change enough to significantly effect the outcome. Humans operate in a very narrow temperature range, when we do press fits in the shop using liquid nitrogen, that is when you see the temperature matter. Until...
